Wilson left his feet. The head was the principle point of contact.

I don't see how he doesn't get suspended.

Yeah, that's what I see. Wilson is low zeroing in but he does that. I thought the Doumilin hit was one of those things.

Not how I saw that at all, actually.

I know a player can leave their skates after principle contact....this really looks like he leaves his skates before he makes contact. I think that's no bueno.

If that's Radko Gudas delivering that hit, they'd put him under the jail.

Winnipeg is a solid team and fun to watch. Byfuglien is playing like a beast all over the ice . Just watching the physical presence in his own end makes me really hope that Morin can make the Flyers next year ( and stay healthy). The Flyers definitely need to be more physical especially in the Metro.

look at Wilsons left skate, pretty sure it is still on the ice just as the hit takes place. If you tried to take this out of the game you might as well say no checking. I think the ref seen 2 players, in a contact sport, both ready for the hit.

Isnt the whole problem with Wilson's hit is that he led with the shoulder? Doesn't seem much more complicated than that to me.

If you're going to lead with the shoulder and you hit a guy up high, intentional or not, I think thats the risk you take of getting yourself in trouble with the league.

Nashville should be in shambles after blowing a 3-0 lead on the road, LOL. Winnipeg is a scary combo of size, speed and skill and a very deep team, but Nashville is no slouch. However, they came out to play the 2nd period like they already had the game in the bag and that's just inexcusable. They had to know that Winnipeg, at home, was going to come out fired up and playing like their lives depended on it and the Preds should have been better prepared.

You know, I'll criticize Hak when I think it's warranted, but I try to be fair. However, if the Flyers had a game like Nashville did last night, Hak would be getting crucified around here. Lets see if anyone gives Lavi the same treatment after last night.

No doubt. OTOH, if it's Marchand, they'd just pat him on the back and say, "please try not to do this anymore, ok buddy?"

Exactly, and it's really on the NHL at this point. If you aren't just giving lip service to improving player safety, then these are the kind of hits you need to be preventing. Was Wilson deliberately targeting the guys head? Probably not. Did Wilson really care if he hit the guy in the head? Again, probably not. It's a reckless play in which the offender just doesn't care if he cracks the guy in the head or not and it deserves some form of punishment. A 1 playoff game suspension seems fair to me and would send a message to the players that you have to be responsible for your actions on the ice.

not sure what he is supposed to lead with, shoulder to shoulder is the right way to hit.

i think Wilson is reckless and deserves extra attention, just don't see it on this one. Both players were ready, at game speed I am not sure there is much else a player could do. The Pen player wanted the hit too. At that speed, I think wilson was going for a solid check

If they don't want contact in the sport then its a bad hit....It's a punishing hit that used to happen 10 times in every NHL game. I thought it was as clean as an open ice hit can be. His feet never left ice until the contact. Its a fast game fella's. To dissect this hit at that speed is disingenuous. It's hockey not soccer.

They are solid. What’s most interesting is that under Paul Maurice that team played undisciplined and poor structurally especially in their own end during his entire tenure up until this year. Looks like the young talent is just taking over. I love how they use buff. He has a full green light to move down low in the o zone and the team is always covering for it.

Better than leading with an elbow, a stick? Good hard hit I don’t want that out of the game.

That's fair and yeah, when you see it at full speed it's pretty much unavoidable. I guess my problem is more with guys like Wilson in general who play recklessly and don't care if they nail a guy in the head or not.

Funny how improving the talent on a team seems to make the coach look better. I don't like all the decisions that Hak makes when it comes to lineups and player usage/TOI, but I'm pretty sure that once he has more talent and less dead weight to work with, he'll probably be fine.

refs didnt cost them that game at all. a terrible night by murray, way too many players playing passenger to crosby/guentzel, horrible pinching by the defense all night, and maatta impregnating both his mother and sister on the same shift to close out the game.

the wilson hit. i dont know man. it comes down to league mentality. was it the most predatory hit circa shea weber on zetterberg a few years back? no. but its a shot to the head. can argue unavoidable i guess, but bottom line if the league is truly serious about removing headshots, then this is what needs to go. if we're just going to go well its a contact sport and these things happen, then fine, but then the lip service about safety and attempting to remove shots to the head from the game needs to stop. it didnt cost them the game though. if youre letting a scrub like that unravel you due to hits then you dont deserve the cup anyway. frustrating game but you just have to buckle down and move on to the next one.

- stayinthefnnet

Doesn't look to me in those replays like the head is the principle point of contact. It seems to me like he catches a lot of his shoulder there. I see that as a good hit.

Neither of that is true. Head was not the principle point of contact and his feet don't leave the ice until after the impact of the hit.

Since when is leading with the shoulder illegal? That's pretty much with every hit.

What else are you going to lead with? I think maybe I am confused by what you are saying.
