So if the Flyers looked for a vet defensman for next season who would you want? Term and cost will be important but there seems to be some veteran types that you might be able to get inexpensive and short term.

I mean if you move Gudas would you take on an older guy like Bieksa on 1 year deal? He is also a right handed shot.

Would you take a Jack Johnson cheap? Alexei Emelin? Nick Holden?

There seem to be some guys that you could maybe get fairly cheap and short term and guys that could fil in anywhere from 3-7 role depending on need or injuries.

so you are saying Centers for next year are Coots, Frost, Patrick, Lehtera?
- dragonoffrost

I seriously hope that Lehtera is not our 4th line center. Also forgot Tarvares.

I don't know if I want to sign anyone on defense.

9-53
6-47
8-5 (Was Morin in 5? Also, can either Hagg or Morin play the right side?)

actually, I think I like this a bit more.

I think the only way that Lehtera is NOT on the 4th line next year is if some deal comes along where Hextall needs to clear cap space.

Otherwise, Lehtera is gonna be around.

I'm not going to complain if they do, but I stay away myself. The thing is it makes them much better, right away and in future, but complicates the cap a bit.

Oh, I know, and fully expect him to be around. I would love for Vex to get a shot at the 4C position next season.

To me, it just doesn't make sense to have Lehtera as your 4C.

Maybe...but I think you could move Voracek or even giroux if need be at that time. And not every prospect is going to get big money deals.

I just like being rally great down the center and then you add on the wings. I think centers can make wings better and I know Frost is coming but he could play the wing and be a facilitator from there like Gaudreau does in calgary.

Morin is practicing today in a regular jersey. Varone in the no contact yellow.

Stolie is out there, too. My reverse jinx worked perfectly.

It’s possible he gets demoted in his final year the way Read did. But I wish they’d just buy him out to save some cash and remove the temptation for Hak to lean on the league’s slowest veteran.

They really don't need to save some cash. Let the contract play out.

So, I'm just putting together lines for next season, just for the fun of it. Assumes no major moves are made. As you'll see I'm trying to go for balance more than anything else.

With G at Center:
12-28-93
54/21-14-11 (prefer Laughton on this line over Lindblom)
54/21-19-17 (prefer Lindblom on this line over Laughton)
40-VEX-NAK

With G at wing:
28-14-17
12-19-11
54-21-93
40-VEX-NAK

In either case, you can see that it would be nice to add one more high end skill guy to that top 9, ideally a center for that 3rd line.

I would rather demote Weise if need be. Lehtara can play out the last year as a 4th line player or spare forward. He was actually one of the better players in the playoffs for them.

Also his speed could be less of an issue if you add more speed to the line. But as a spare forward I am fine with him.

Thanks. If I call correctly, in Sanheim's first year in the AHL, he played with Morin, and they were labelled the 'twin towers'?

Do you think they look to make Laughton a permanent winger? He seems to be more noticeable on the wing and more effective there.

Yeah, I would have preferred the buy out route, as well.

I understand why they aren't buying him out; I just don't agree with it.

I don't know. They spent a lot of time developing him as a center.

lol honestly never heard that nickname, but yeah they were a pair for most of the year. Became the top pairing eventually, though it was always kind of skewed with how much Brennan played

To give other, likely more capable players in the system a chance at a spot on the team.

Agree in a way but if they aren't going to really play him anymore then a 4th line center, don't you need to look for another option to get the most out of his skills?
