Well, it 'quotes', Babcock denying there's any issue. It also 'quotes' Matthews basically saying the exact same thing. So if the coach & captain are being quoted correctly, it shouldn't matter who is writing & publishing the story. Im actually surprised Ek hasn't thrown this down yet to get a meltdown on the Buzzzzzzz.

I realise Toronto is a hotbed of uncontrolled controversy, but if history tells us anything it's that if someone is denying something happened or worse, 2 people are, then something must have happened.

- Aussiepenguin

Don't you worry. EK's hot takery and the Toronto sports media douchbaggery will surely coalesce at some point in the near future. With the Leafs out of the playoffs site hits will dwindle and then this "controversy" will be exposed.

Komarov will be resigned on a cheap 2y deal.
Bozak will be resigned on similar deal for 3-4years.
Polak will get another 1 year deal for similar money.

JVR gone
Moore gone.
Plekanec gone.

Leafs sign Tavares.

Leafs trade Nylander and Gardiner for Seth Jones.

that's my ideal scenario.

Probably end up being a snap Buzzzzz poll - who stays who goes. Babcock versus Matthews.

Has anyone ever heard of Buffalo-style pizza before?

Medium-thick dough, sweet sauce and lots of toppings just sounds like...pizza.

I would have guessed Buffalo style pizza would be made with hot sauce and blue cheese best served in a windowless restaurant.

I thought it would have been made with toppings of despair and envy, and a crushed dream sauce.

This should be the reason why you can just dismiss this out of hand.

Here is the other part of the whole Matthews - Babcock thing.

Maybe there actually was some tension. Maybe Babcock lost his trust in Matthews this series because he was poopting the bed all series? Maybe Matthews didn't like that.

... and maybe this kind of stuff plays out hundreds of times every season all around the league.

There was a lot of frustration on both sides. It happens. This is a non-story.

Zezel - I think we generally agree on things.

But potentially trading Nylander is not saying Nylander is a bad player.
On the contrary, he has highest value after Matthews and Marner in a trade.
In my view, if Leafs can sign Tavares, they should trade Nylander for help on D.
With Matthews-Marner-Kadri as three valuable pieces on fw + Tavares, Leafs have the C settled (Matthews-Tavares-Kadri) - Nylander was supposed to go to 2nd line C going forward.

People say 'trade Nylander' in general only say to trade him for a young #1D.
In my view, there is only 2 players you would trade Nylander (+ have to add though) for; Seth Jones and Ivan Provorov.

So the 'trade Nylander' discussion is very contingent on the return.

Leafs team with Seth Jones / Provorov and no Nylander is way better than Leafs team with Nylander but no legit #1 D man.

- MaximusAurelius

I totally agree.

I just don't think Nylander can fetch one of those guys. Leafs would have to add, a lot. The truth is those two are pretty damn close to untouchable.

but yeah swap out Nylander for a dman of that caliber and the Leafs are a stronger team.

I don’t see why either team would do that though. These aren’t veteran dmen on rebuilding teams. They’re young #1s on teams on the rise.

Even if you value Nylander higher than them, why do you mess with that?

Agree - no way to sugar coat it. Matthews had an abysmal season (by expectations) - both regular and playoffs. Part of it is the soft nature of the surrounding team - not presently built for playoff hockey, part of it was the underperformance by some players including Matthews.

I have been the biggest Matthews critic here over his first round play.

I would not even entertain that trade idea.

The kid is 20, like 6'3" and led the league in 5v5 goals since he came in the league. He is also being taught how to play a strong 2-way game.

Big, strong, talented #1 Centers are harder to find than even #1 Dmen.

I was unaware that Buttalo has staked claim at regular pizza.

Point a game player. 34 goals even though he missed 20 games.

That's abysmal to you? How?

His reg. season was good since he was injured or playing injured for about half the season. Playoffs were abysmal.

I am sure he would rather forget the regular season also after the injuries.
