With Matthews and Eichel, Buffalo will still miss the playoffs some how.

If Nashville keeps throwing that many shots on net something is bound to get through eventually. Either a deflection, or the goalie will just miscalculate on a shot at some point.
It's like us relying on Andersen to stop 40 shots and getting mad when he lets in a "softy". If they have too many shots eventually they get fatigued or just miscalculate on where to put their glove/stick/pad slightly and it gets by. Fire enough routine shots on net and eventually even the best of goalies will make a mistake.

On the other hand, he might be getting into the Nashville players' heads by this point, which would make things easier for him. The Winnipeg players really need to step up though if they don't want this to get ugly.

Ok, well, looks like Hellebyuck saved the day tonight for the Jets. 48 shots and only one got by.

If the rest of the games are similar as far as shots go, I think Nashville is going to find ways to score, despite any heroics by Hellebuyck. I also expect Rinne will do better in the future games. This was not a good game for him. (at least that's what the goals against/sv% tell me, I'll admit I didn't watch the game)
Hellebuyck seems to have stolen this game. Good for him.

Well that’s a given.

So I guess we go with a C to replace him.

LOL..god bless optimism. This piece reminds me of my teenage years as a Leaf fan. I'm 50 now so that version of Leaf fan in me was slapped senseless YEARS ago. I will say this, I'd still rather have an overly optimistic fan then the emotional basket cases who want everyone traded and Carlton put down. Gardiner has no hockey brain to use better. It's not in his skill set and if the Leafs keep using him as a top pairing D the outcome will NOT change. Also this team needs size and grit along the boards or again, the outcome will be the same. This lineup top to bottom is quite a few pieces short of any kind of a playoff team. They will be the prototypical regular season giant with few playoff successes. Here's a tip to Leaf fans: If you would bother to watch games from the perspective of what the OTHER team is doing a little bit you'd see the flaws a little more clearly. Unfortunately, most supporters do all their evaluations based solely on the scoreboard and continuously overlook all the flaws within those victories.

Ok punters.

What's this about my man Auston having grievance with Babblecock?

Is this true? It's mentioned on nhl.com hence my question.

Anyone that wants to trade Nylander...kill yourself. Not debating, just saying in my opinion you should kill yourself. But Zez, how will we upgrade the D? By you killing yourself.
- Zezel

Zezel - I think we generally agree on things.

But potentially trading Nylander is not saying Nylander is a bad player.
On the contrary, he has highest value after Matthews and Marner in a trade.
In my view, if Leafs can sign Tavares, they should trade Nylander for help on D.
With Matthews-Marner-Kadri as three valuable pieces on fw + Tavares, Leafs have the C settled (Matthews-Tavares-Kadri) - Nylander was supposed to go to 2nd line C going forward.

People say 'trade Nylander' in general only say to trade him for a young #1D.
In my view, there is only 2 players you would trade Nylander (+ have to add though) for; Seth Jones and Ivan Provorov.

So the 'trade Nylander' discussion is very contingent on the return.

Leafs team with Seth Jones / Provorov and no Nylander is way better than Leafs team with Nylander but no legit #1 D man.

Komarov will be resigned on a cheap 2y deal.
Bozak will be resigned on similar deal for 3-4years.
Polak will get another 1 year deal for similar money.

JVR gone
Moore gone.
Plekanec gone.

Leafs sign Tavares.

Leafs trade Nylander and Gardiner for Seth Jones.

that's my ideal scenario.

Well, it 'quotes', Babcock denying there's any issue. It also 'quotes' Matthews basically saying the exact same thing. So if the coach & captain are being quoted correctly, it shouldn't matter who is writing & publishing the story. Im actually surprised Ek hasn't thrown this down yet to get a meltdown on the Buzzzzzzz.

I realise Toronto is a hotbed of uncontrolled controversy, but if history tells us anything it's that if someone is denying something happened or worse, 2 people are, then something must have happened.
