Your boy Mcavoy got exposed in the Leaf series. (I still like the kid) - Aaron_85
Still learning the game - he'll be fine. He also played a poop ton of minutes and a lot of those were against Matthews so I it's not like he played that poorly. Albeit he was out with Chara and Bergeron at that point a lot too.
He's gotta work on his play in the corners. |

Carolina could be ripe for the picking... new incoming GM will want to put his stamp on the team... and will pretty quickly realize that they are deep on the back-end... not so deep up front. - BorjeFan4Ever
I'm hoping a deal can be done. I really don't think it's worth giving up Nylander or another younger winger YET. I'd rather trade picks/prospects than guys likely to make the roster.
JVR can be replaced but if we moved Kapanen too or Johnsson we'd be lacking on the wings all of a sudden. I'd move 2019 first for a young kid on Carolina or Philly. |

I know plus / minus isn't everything but a +34 with 37 points.. Yeah he's worth Marner
you like Marner I get it and Leaf players are all the best at every position. - dozerD10
The guys turning 27 in October and this is the first time he has scored over 20 points in a season since 2010-2011...in the BCHL
So ya. How about no... |

On the one hand: Lynch Gardiner! Buy him out with a gofundme! He's the only reason the leafs are bad what a horrible player and person and teammate and he has no brain.
On the other hand: Doughty plz plz plz plz come to Toronto we promise you it's nice! - TheMussel
exactly why you trade Gardinorr as part of package for Doughty and provide Doughty with goodies, like a free subscription to super-cuts, dental work and a condo in the beaches with heating and sun lamps (so he feels like he's in LA) |

Hopefully Cassidy keeps Krug with Chara. I really liked that pairing. |

JVR, Nylander, Gardiner - All fell short of where they should have been. No heavy game, only Nylander showed a little talent for back checking but his skill game went missing. He needs to learn consistancy and the ability to lead a line.
Matthews - excellent defense and checking game, but unable push through the pressure to make his big plays in tight. He needs to stay with Hyman, but more muscle to go with good skill is needed on his line.
Kapanen, Johnsson, Brown, Dermot all showed the talent to move up.
One change I would have made - Andreas Borgman might have been a big help to come from the bench as a spare D. Better on the point, plays a heavier game, than Carrick or some of the older guys. |

Can't believe some people with the hate for Gardiner. Some stupid fan was dumb enough to start a gofundme page to buy him out. Yea, he didn't have the best game, and he had costly turnovers. If the turnovers didn't result in a goal no one would be talking about it. Boston took advantage of their opportunities you can't solely blame Gardiner.
This is a guy who put up 52 pts this year and had a career year. He is a high risk high reward player, and needs to be paired with a guy who allows him that opportunity. The leafs do need to overhaul their defense, but I don't agree that he should be traded. If he goes, who replaces his offense from the blue line? Liljegren is still a year or two away, and I can't wait to hear everyone complain about his game and his turnovers.

Speaking of Carolina, does anyone else just want to send their resume to the owner and ask for the GM or coaching job? I feel like legit anyone has a chance at getting it. |

Josh Manson replaces him after they trade Marner. Obviously. |

Dermott is young and will likely take his spot in due time.
Secondly, you don't need to replace his offense if you replace his defense with better defense. You don't need to score as much if you're not letting in so many goals/shots. |

financial problems / challenges / low attendance in Carolina... "ripe for the picking"... and they have a number of RFAs that will likely require bigger contracts...

You should probably re-evaluate that stud defenseman on a team that got monumentally destroyed by a perennial playoff choking team. - RickJames77

Here's the thing though;
I think you almost have to trade Gardiner, not because he's a bad player, but for his own sake/sanity. Next season, any mistake he makes will be overblown, magnified and compared to last night's game. Almost, like a "here we go again" scenario. I think he needs a fresh start... Otherwise, he will be "Larry Murphy'ed" here.

its so obvious and true... I don't actually dislike Gardiner personally, but for those folks defending him based on his offensive stats... well... what was it that Babcock said part way through the season... "no one knows what Jake is doing out there?" or similar...
problem is Gardiner doesn't know either. |

Most of his time during the reg season was riding around with the Matthews line and he got lots of PP time. He looks good for stretches...but he's far from great and shouldn't be leading a team in ice time. Didn't have to face the top line in reg season or the playoffs. ( very little anyways ) More of a risk then a reward if he can't be trusted against the other teams top line. I don't mind him sticking around...but he needs to be 4th in ice time...not 1st. |
