Haha come on, he had two huge games facing elimination, to say he's not a big game goalie is not fair. He didnt have a great series but Boston is a good team, I dont see how having a different goalie would have changed the series at all.

There is a Go Fund Me page to buy out Gardiner.

No joke...... I think it is currently at 170 bucks.

You do know there is a cap, right?
- Beatle_john

doesn't apply to Toronto anymore, every since Lou Lams became GM... Leafs get special rules... you know TML cheats.

which is the way it always should have been and should be.

Players born in Ontario don't cost against the CAP... or something like that.

So for example, Doughty should not cost against the CAP

I don't think you can blame the defence... they are what they are. The Leafs forwards got ZERO forecheck going and just handed the puck over to the Bruins forwards at the first sign of physicality.

Blame Gardiner all you want but Nylander basically broke the puck out of the zone for Boston on the Debrusk goal. I honestly can't stand the way Nylander plays. Tons of speed and tons of skill but he just floats around the ice and tries to make cute plays, avoiding contact at all costs. Move him for some help on D.

Anderson was terrible. Crazy to see him play out of his mind in game 5 and then this badly in game 7.

Great... should be enough with the way Gardiner is probably feeling today...

seriously - Leafs should trade him - he's going to get savaged in the press.

He has now entered Phaneuf territory... doesn't matter what he does well...

does this series even go 7 without having Gardiner?
the D is pretty bad without his breakouts. It didnt work in game 7, but he lead the team in stretch passes (by a lot) in the series. It helped the leafs get a lot of chances and some goals

- senstroll

Yes it does...if we had another offensive talented dman in his place.

Easier said than done, but I think if the Leafs can sign Carlson and Andrej Sustr..

Rielly - Carlson
Dermott- Zaitsev
Hainsey - Sustr
Polak

Trade Gardiner/Carrick for picks maybe.. Keep Polak as the 7th D-man.

- PatC80

Honestly, Leafs have the space to add JT and Carlson next season without moving Gardiner. Just let him walk next offseason.

In the next CBA there's one thing I want to happen. Franchise tag. Pick a player and for the duration of the contract it doesn't count against the cap. Eichel, Crosby, Matthews all would essentially be exempt. Doubt it will happen though since the have not teams wouldn't be able to offer max contracts.

I did hear that in the next CBA they want contracts to be even shorter, 5 - 6 years max like the NBA. It would definitely allow for more movement of stars and superstars.

We've been in need of a true number one whipping boy (1WB) for a couple years now. The job got done by committee, partly by Gardiner but also with strong contributions from Polak, JVR and Bozak. But with the latter two likely lost to free agency I think we'd really regret dealing a guy who's shown promise in the past but is really just now taking that next step to becoming a legit 1WB. Deal him now and you're just going to have to go looking for another one.

Does anyone think Lou gets some blame here? Our defense was incredibly weak, we did nothing to improve it, and it cost us the season.

It's gonna be a long 12 months

The nhl should do what they did back in the 30's that lasted for several decades to help save the Canadiens from folding.
Create a special draft.
The leafs can draft any two Ontario players in a side draft. Prior to the nhl draft.

Leafs have too many guys that need the refs whistles to protect them.

Possible shoulder surgery for Matthews? No strength on face-offs or his shots.

Poor Morgan, 120 km/h clapper to the face and the mole survives.

I believe they should have moved UFA's if they could at the deadline. I didn't mind getting the expensive defenseman because it would have cost too many assets.

I think they could have done fine without JVR in the playoffs and plugged in Moore or anyone else. No reason to pay him what he's asking for regular season goals. Leafs will need guys on ELC's in the next few years to remain competitive.

genuinely curious... who do you believe the Leafs could get for Marner?
- BorjeFan4Ever

I would keep Marner over Nylander. But if you moved Marner I'd expect a top pairing RHD coming back in the trade. Maybe Trouba still wants out of Winnipeg ? Something around Marner for Trouba and possibly Winnipeg adds on their end. Living in the GTA I still see more Leaf games then any other team. The Leafs have fantastic forward depth but until they get better on the backend it wont mean jack.
