My quote option isn’t working again on my iPhone, but I’m in total agreement w BiggE’s contract proposal for Simmons. A little more money per year (6 mil )but 4 years is fair. I think Simmonds would take a small home team discount to remain a Flyer, and the intangibles he brings on and off the ice make him worth it. One poster mentioned “security” of alonger term deal. I don’t see how banking another 24-25 million dollars isn’t “security”. Besides, even w a longer term, if his skills diminish significantly, how many minutes per game would he be playing? Again, BiggE got it right, get it done.

People are losing their minds on social media about Giroux's comments about fans booing and whatnot. Pretty hilarious.
- Ftown19125

I swear people don't listen. Doesn't help when people like Marcus Hayes write click bait articles where they cherry pick the facts. I am so thankful we have writers like Bill to give us things worth reading. What giroux was saying is players hear the boos and sometimes try to do too much and get away from their came plan. what is so wrong with that? BTW couturier said something similar....he mentioned the fans yelling shoot on the PP. crickets on that comment tho.

I always find it ridiculous when people lose their minds over players having opinions.

"they are paid to shoot so stfu"

I think Simmonds next deal is going to be something in the range of 6-7 years and between 36-40M over that time range.

A home town discount might look like 6 yrs 35-38M range.

I don’t think these 5 yr at 5M are realistic. Sorry, would be great but I can’t see it.

If they don’t like those numbers then they can keep him for most of next season and try to move him at the TDL or keep him if they are in the playoffs and let him walk for no return.
Bad asset management, but having a healthy Simmonds for the playoffs is valuable.

I think the likelihood of getting an offer where they are blown away for him this summer has decreased because of his play and injuries this year. It could still happen but seems less likely.

somebody mentioned hornqvists's contract as a comparable, maybe there's a chance

I mean I don't care either, and don't really know if the quote was taken out of context, but he shouldn't say fans booing affects their play.
- Ftown19125

IMHO all he was saying is the boos can make a player press more

It's insane what hockey players put themselves through. True Iron men.

Bill, thanks for highlighting the journey Manning's been on. I can not appreciate his game a whole lot but definitely have respect for his journey as a man. Heck, he's 20 times better than me at hockey.

Kind of a silly question because there is no way he is taking a pay cut in his next deal, but if he was going to go as low as a 3 million aav, then sure, sign him to a 6 year deal.
- BiggE

thats the part where I said it won't go this way. All i am asking is what would cause people more pause, the longer term at a lesser price or the larger cap hit shorter term.

All things being equal I would definitely prefer the shorter term.

I get it, and he's just being honest, but he has to know in saying that, that people are going to be all over him for it. I'm just laughing reading all the "not captain material" and "hope this gets him traded" comments.

How many times have you heard the comment "a good road game" which is code for boring? Players, not just Flyers, have commented about sometime trying harder at home and taking chances because you are trying to impress the home crowd who get impatient . No poop that players hear the boos and try to press sometimes which makes it worse. Really not sure what part of what Giroux said or what Couturier said was inaccurate or is saying its the fans fault.

and this is where I mention people get all bent out of shape when players or coaches give canned answers and people get all bent out of shape when a player says what he thinks.

Listening to Hak's year end PC, coach speak is a hoot! Sadly I missed the first part.

What Hak said paraphrased:
1. yeah we can be successful with the same goalie tandem next year, Neuvy is making changes to his offseason routine and Moose commands so much respect in the room. You can't guarantee anything at this level, but I'm comfortable with this tandem going forward and the key is that we use them as a tandem, Moose's workload got a little heavy at times due to injuries

2. Was really impressed with some of our lesser heralded guys in their development this year, a guy like Scotty Laughton really stood out during the series with Pittsburgh

3. Does the team need to get quicker and be more like Vegas? Well Vegas does it with balanced speed throughout the lineup, but we need to utilize quicker puck movement and making better decisions with the puck. It wasn't about team speed as much as what we do with the puck.

4. What do you see as needs to improve? Starts of periods and carryover from one period to another. Our team is resilient but we need to do a better job and it comes down mainly to maturity.

5. What happened in the Pens series and why did they so often dominate you for long stretches? It was mainly due to puck management and giving up too many good chances. We need to do a better job of decision making and managing the puck.

Now, here is what he really means.

1. What (frank)ing choice do I have, I can only roll with what Hexy gives me. (frank)ing Neuvy gets injured eating breakfast so I'm forced to all but kill Moose. Would I like to have a guy like Holtby or Dubnyk, what the (frank) do you think?

2. Give me a few more guys that can play and skate so I never have to look at turds like Weise and Lehtera on my bench ever again.

3. Again you (frank)ing morons, I can only play the guys Hexy gives me. Of course we need to get faster and more skilled and a couple of big bodies on the wing that can win a puck battle now and then would be nice too!

4. What needs to improve? I need some more quality (frank)ing talent to work with so I don't have to burn my best players out, that's what needs to (frank)ing improve! JFC, do you guys actually watch the (frank)ing games?

5. What happened with the Pens? Really? Here's what happened: Crosby, Malkin and a (frank)ing goalie that wasn't injured. JFC, do you asshats think I LIKED matching Filppula up against their top players? I'd like to see Scotty (frank)ing Bowman find a way to beat this team with the roster I had and with my top center playing on one leg and my top Dman playing with one arm. What happened?? We lost to a better, deeper and much more playoff tested team, that's what (frank)ing happened. FFS, Hexy needs to bring back Pronger just to deal with you morons!

The fan reactions are ridiculous. We saw the same thing with Bryzgalov showing a personality.

And Marcus Hayes? He has no business writing hockey articles. The guy just hates Giroux, and has hated him for a long time.

If only the media had the balls to ask Hextall why his standards for coaching are so low. The PK has been abysmal for four years in a row now.

I won't read his writing anymore. I only know about it because of what is being said on twitter. I have, however, listed to the entire Giroux comments. Hayes is about click bait. I went at it before with him and just decided his writing isn't worth my time.

I think part of the issue is that you have clubs who continuously try to “push the pace” so to speak and those who try to slow the game down.

Flyers are in the second category, for better or worse.
