If Ryan O'Reilly wasn't so freaking overpaid, he'd be perfect for where he is in his career and where the Flyers are
- AllInForFlyers

All the factors have to be looked at. Ryan O'Reilly is really a first line center caliber player in this league. The Flyers have a need for a 3rd line center. They have Couturier and Patrick. Not only the cap hit but a developing young team is going to want a pretty high return to trade him to the Flyers. From the Flyers perspective, he's not perfect when looking at al the factors. He's not even a player we should be looking at or discussing. It's not a fit.

Yup, and there me good ole lehtera. You realize he’s in the lineup in your legit checker spot , right ?
- jmdodgeser4

Ha! It could happen, but I'll believe it when I see it

I could easily see him in LHV, like Read was -- I truly don't think he's a lock for a roster slot at all

I’m gunna get bashed on this , but, I’d consider evander Kane for a left wing upgrade at a short term deal even at a higher cap hit.

That would be a filthy little move, wouldn't it? I saw an interview where Chayka was kinda ambivalent about him -- said he wanted it to work, needed to see more

Arizona's funky like that. They ended the season on fire, and their future is clearly Keller, with Stepan in a leadership role and Strome hoping to make the leap

Domi might be a guy who, if you think you see the future, could look great on a Lindblom-Patrick-Domi line

Dear Lord. That just made me get a little lightheaded

Giroux-Couturier-Voracek
Lindblom-Patrick-Domi
Konecny-Legit 3C-Simmonds
Legit Checker-Laughton-Legit Checker

Lehtera

My gosh. You sure as hell could win some games with that

- AllInForFlyers

He is a huge Bob Clarke fan as well.....just some extra ammo to get him here. Probably would have to give up some young talent to get him. I don't think an offer sheet would cut it. Hell I would throw in Gudas too !

We disagree on what O'Reilly is on a good team -- he's put up numbers on bad teams, but to me, he's just like Derick Brassard and Kyle Turris. Guys who are better when they aren't focal points

He's on the last year of that deal and Minnesota might need to look to the future. It's a slim chance and the price would be steep, no doubt about that. Your guy Nash had a career year with 15 goals. He rarely tops double digits. Filppula had 11 and people are saying he's done. Bozak might be the best choice among the UFAs but he's not a huge upgrade. Remember that 3C becomes a top 6 C if Couturier or Patrick miss any time. You need the savvy 2-way play but you need some offense too.
- fls13

Remember if that 3rd line center has to move up he'll then get more ice time and play more with the better offensive players on the team. If you get a dozen goals from a 3rd line center that's pretty good. Staal is more likely to be a deadline trade chip then an off season trade chip.

I didn't realize we were speculating on what O'Rielly would be on a good team, I thought we were looking at the facts of what a player has actually done. He scored 24 goals and 61 points on a bad team. What would he score less on a good team? The facts I laid out don't change on any of that speculation and why O'Reilly is not a fit for many reasons. It's not fantasy hockey.

MacKinnon, Hall and McDavid are the NHLPA nominees for the Lindsay

Wasn't necessarily expecting it, but was hoping Giroux would get into that third slot

So, 2nd round picks anyone?

I got:

Caps over Pens in 6
This Pens team has holes and Ovi is on a mission, I can't wait to chat with Kenny from Jersey City after this series!

Lightning over Bruins in 6
Unlike the Leafs, the Bolts have some quality Dmen and a top notch goalie. Bruins had some real difficulty with the Leafs speed and they are going to see more of the same with Tampa. Plus, I have no confidence in Rask winning another series.

And, in the West
Sharks over Vegas in 6
It's hard to pick against Vegas, but the Sharks are just on fire right now. I think San Jose gets a split in Vegas and doesn't lose a home game in the series.

Preds over Jets in 7
This is going to be a great a series, but in the end, I'll go with Rinne in a do or die game 7 over the much more untested Hellebuyck.

- BiggE

Pens in 7, Bäckström will dissapear and Trotz will be a Ranger

Lightning in 5, was about to say 4 but Rask will steal one game

Sharks in 6, just what you said

And Jets in 7, lowscoring 7 games. 3-4 sudden and score 1-0 2-1

I want to be perfectly clear. O'Reilly would absolutely improve and make the Flyers better. It's just not realistic. Hextall will not pay the price for him, so he's not a realistic target. Might was well say go after Crosby.

O'Reilly is a good player. If they were willing to take back MacDonald, I'd be interested in kicking the tires on him

(Obviously would cost more than MacDonald. Taking him back would just be part of the deal)

A dozen might be good but not good enough. The Flyers became a slightly better than average scoring team this year. Eight of the 9 top scoring teams in the league are still playing. It'll be interesting to see how things play out. They need more scoring from the bottom 6 forwards next year.

I agree, they do need more scoring. They're not bottom 6 but I believe that Konecny and Patrick bust out next season.
