Allison left a little wiggle room, right?
If it's me, I'd come in desperately looking to win a spot, especially if I could play the left side, but that's just how I'd do it - AllInForFlyers

Hextall said all the coaches will return, however, roles could change a bit - nastyflyergirl
So Laperriere running the PP? Filling the water bottles? Scrubbing the poopters?
When someone sucks at their job they get fired. Inventing a new position for someone who did a garbage job for multiple years doesn't make sense.

Seriously. If you're even a bit annoyed by what he said, you are a humongous big baby.
This is why the only place I discuss hockey (I don't even post that much) is right here on HB. It's our little world to do it, because there is nothing more obnoxious or boring than sports talk and your average sports fan. |

It certainly doesn't, but once you get to a certain level in life this is indeed what happens.
Call me cynical, but this really only applies when you're middle class or poor. |

The simplest decision going into next season is firing the coach who runs the PK. If this decision a 5 year old could make doesn't happen it's a poopshow.
Edit: Lehtera back based on Hextall interview. Hell bring Weise, Filpula and Manning back too! |

I'm confident in Ron Hextall in his evaluations that if he thought the issues with the PK were due to coaching, he would make a change. They may still as he hinted that responsibilities may change. I personally would like to see a change there because I feel a different voice is needed. I think the biggest issue with the PK is personnel and execution. |

Here's the thing: I can kinda see, if you as the GM think you don't have the personnel to really pressure the puck on the PK, or you had some abnormally low SVPCT on the PK, you don't automatically jettison guys.
But for me, man. I mean, come on. This PK has just not gotten the job done for years. Some of it's probably, likely, personnel.
But it can't be all of it.
You can't keep finishing in the bottom five of the league, through multiple coaches, yet keep the one guy who has been running the PK.
We can all have opinions about Chief, but I'll go to my grave saying they would've made the playoffs the year he got the boot if the PK had done ANYTHING -- the PK lost them at least five games that season alone |

I'm cool with them not buying him out if they don't need to. Not sure what the problem is there. |

It was always more likely than not that Lehtera was gonna be back -- you eat the salary for one season, not two, with him as the 12/13 forward.
With the cap going up, everybody's got money to spend so you really gain no advantage by buying him out. If he's simply horrific in camp next year, you send him to the AHL or negotiate something then

So if Lehterä is back as the 4C, and they might bring back Filppula, where is the upgrade at center happening?

What do you think they will do with Weise? I mean the guy went 5 weeks without playing a game, to being in the lineup for back to back playoff elimination games? You have to scrub the roster of all this poop, and take these decisions out of the coaches hands. |

Man, you know how I feel about Weise. He wouldn't even have been a Flyer, if it was up to me. He has looked exactly like I thought he would
I will guess this: If Weise and Lehtera are both on the 50-man next season, one of them is going to the AHL
But believe it or not, I think if Hextall tries hard, he could probably move Weise. Maybe retain some salary, get a sixth or seventh back
Teams are smarter than they used to be, but someone will have a really young roster and could see him as someone who could do something on a fourth line, just think he needs a change of scenery -- which he absolutely does |

Bad decision any way you slice it.
And yes I am judging the decision on 20/20 hindsight. How else are decisions judged? |

If you're Hextall, you call Marc Bergevin, Dale Tallon and Jim Benning EVERY SINGLE DAY to try to move Weise
Those guys are always susceptible to the "Veteran Presence/Grit" argument. Bergevin has already had Weise, who has also been in Vancouver.
But Dale Tallon might look back at the season and say one more veteran would've gotten him into t he playoffs |

Good idea. There are probably a few more GMs that are easy marks for the veteran argument as well. Chiarelli perhaps although his plate might already be full.

Chiarelli absolutely would've been Mark No. 1, but he's under a mandate to get faster |

While we are on the subject of Dale Weise. I’d like to point out that this dude did absolutely NOTHING to get back into the line up. Nothing!
He was completely uninterested the last time he sniffed the ice and non competitive. He committed a cardinal sin in my eyes. One that should not be forgiven.
Yet he was inserted back into the lineup just because he was a veteran. During a playoff game no less!
I think this was particularly egregious. |
