Pretty much it.
the D that needs to be replaced in order
Polak
Hainsey
Zaitsev (mainly his contract is the issue now, he is just average)
And Id be fine with trading Gardiner because he's a wienerhead - senstroll

I still get enjoyment from watching him, but I sure do feel bad for Ron Mclean - david22

Gardiner and Rielly last year vs. WAS was as close to a perfect series as you could've asked from those two, especially when Polak went down.
Gardiner's a high risk/high reward defenseman: you take the good with the bad with him. Those half a dozen stretch passes he made last night usually connect 80% of the time; last night, they turned into 2 goals against.
Still lots of nerves on the backend too: lots of missed opportunities to get it out, but we knew our D was weak, especially on the PK with Hainsey and Polak back there.
It's going to be a interesting off-season though.
Are we going top-heavy with a run at Tavares or are we looking for D?
Carlson would look pretty good on the right side.. - gravyface
I thought you tapped out already...back from the dead so soon?

Fact is, Gardiner had a horrible game yesterday (was on the ice for 5 goals against... 2 of them were direct turnovers and one was bad defensive coverage on his part).
Overall, I think he's not that bad. Statistically he makes very few turnovers or mistakes... but when he does they seem to always be catastrophic... something stats can never fully assess.
He's a fine 2nd pairing option but it's too much to rely on him as your most used defenseman like the Leafs did in this series. |

I saw the rational vs. insane ratio had exceeded HB safety thresholds. Once things settle down I'll bow out.
You're welcome. |

I'm not interested in Carlson. He had a career year and will cost A lot. Tavares is the only free agent really worth chasing. Then you need to find a trade partner I think if you want D. |

Doesn't make him less of a wienerhead.
He will take a lot of blame for the game but the whole team could have done better. Particularly game 4 with Bergeron out. |

While I agree the Leafs should have taken advantage of Bergeron being out in game 4.
they kinda stole game 5 in my book so it evens out? |

I like how every time Don Cherry goes on a rant, Ron McLean is kind of hunched over at his desk, staring at Don, trying to force a smile, but you can tell from his eyes that he's just thinking about the 3 million dollar cottage he owns somewhere in Muskoka and that it'll all be worth it when the season is done. |

If they stole game 5 after winning game 4 they'd have finished them in game 6. (I only wish) |

Anyone who suggests trading Matthews should have their Richard cut off and thrown out the window of a moving car. |

I've always been steadfast on my views of Jake Gardiner. Really good offensive player, usually not that bad defensively, the type of guy you want on your team. And as of late he's really been improving on the physical side of things.
But, the risk is higher than the reward. We all know what that means. |

They'll have to address D in the off-season.
Ideal scenario;
Keep: Rielly, Zaitsev,Dermott and Hainsey.
Use this off-season to find help..

So any thoughts on where Gardiner and Martin will get traded to?
and where Bozak Komarov JVR will sign?
I'd guess:
Gardiner and Martin to NYI.
Bozak: toronto
Komarov: toronto
JVR: New Jersey / NYR / SJ / Florida |
