Gardiner sees we have momentum and channels his inner Ralph.

Equally as confident that the Leafs depth would beat the Bruins?

You are avoiding the question

Deal?

If you don't say deal, it just shows us all you are full of poop.

I would love this. First or second round playoff meetings for a dozen years straight. We don’t care who wins because Montreal and Ottawa are still bottom feeders. And that’s all that matters

WHEN is Leaf management going to finally realize that, after years and years, Gardiner is what he is and no team would ever win a final with him as a key defenceman. He will always be way too easy to exploit by even average opposition.

You seem to be forgetting McDavid, Drai, Nuge.
Top two C depth by any measure.

What's the Stanley Cup count?

Like I said, when Crosby and Malkin get older, then we can talk. Until then, he/they are the undisputed champs right now.

What an entertaining game with some serious poop goaltending. My one and only comment is Gardiner

I’m going to be taking a hiatus from here for obvious reasons boys. Still disappointed one of these two teams had to go.

you're really making up the whole 'privacy' thing.

if Stamkos can make approx 2mln in endorsements in Tampa (not even going to Ovy and Sid), then Tavares can definitely make that in Toronto as well.
For him to play in Nashville won't give him the same endorsement deals.

But let's just say he'll 'just' make 1mln more in endorsements at Toronto vs. Nashville.
That's compensating the tax difference 100%.

- MaximusAurelius

No, it's not made up. Drew Doughty said it publicly. People in general don't want to be bothered, much less on that big of a scale. Do you like it when telemarketers call your house? How'd you feel if every 10 steps you took, there was some guy wanting an autograph or a reporter asking you why you missed the open net and so on and so on. It's real and just because you refuse to acknowledge it doesn't make it any less real or any less of a factor in player's decision making.

Speaking of Stamkos, it seems rather odd he never “went home” when he had the opportunity. Amazing that he preferred the quieter lifestyle down in Tampa.

Nothing to be ashamed of . This team is young and only going to get better. A few more tweaks Lou and we will be on our way.

30 for JVR was a given. 36 was a slightly pleasant surprise.

I can see Kapanen, Johnsson and Brown scoring 50-55 combined. It should be enough to replace the goals.

- Unholy_Goalie

JVR had 36 goals and 54 points and was a +1.

He was on the ice for at least 35 goals against.

If Kapanen or Johnson or Brown (with more minutes) can score 20 and be a +10....

Anderson: Not good enough....maybe I'm reminiscing back to the days of Potvin, Jospeh, Belfour and morning erections lasting longer than three hours(no doctor needed)

Matthews: He played tonight? I don't know if he's soft, injured or uninspired but the calls to sign JT are pretty valid considering how absent he was.

Gardiner: Liability. We need to trade for a really solid Dman.

Just my opinion(best case scenario):

- Sign JT. Give him max dollars and give Matthews a bridge deal to see if he has it in him.

- See if we can get a Marleau-type deal for Kovalchuk to buy time for Kappy and Johnsson to develop. Promote Leivo and give the guy a chance to show what he can do with regular playing time at the right price.

- Trade Kadri and Gardiner in a package for a good Dman. Part of me wants to keep Liljegren because he could be a real gem and getting a 27-30 y.o. Dman might not be worth the future if Lily turns out good but something needs to be done on the blueline.

- Johnsson and Kapanen are good enough on the wings we can let JVR walk. Maybe a Marleau-type deal for Kovalchuk would help give time for the young ones to develop.

- Give Sparks the backup job next year at 25-30 games. Mac was good but I think Andersen was either burntout or not cutout for this job. We need to find out what it is soon.

JVR was on the ice for 88 goals for and 48 goals against. When you consider that 39 of the goals for were on the PP, that brings it down to 49 goals for and 48 goals against.

So if Brown can score 20 (he's done it before) and Kapanen and Johnsson (very good powerplay player for the Marlies, averaged 20+ goals 4 years in a row across two pro-hockey leagues) can score 15 each, they're sitting at 60 goals for. This season, JVR, Brown, Kapanen and Johnsson combined for 59 goals total. So they'd basically break even.

both goalies were "shakey"...

Please tell me the Leafs fans suggesting trade proposals for Matthews because of one 7 game playoff series are trolling their own fans.... Please tell me you guys aren't actually this stupid.

If Gretzky got traded, anybody can be.

If the deal is right, nothing is ever off the table.

The top priority is always making the team better and sometimes fans put their "favorites" ahead of what the team needs to actually improve.

All that being said, there's little to no reason to trade Matthews at this moment in time. But things can always change.
