Well good news is Babcock turned his coaching around and a few other guys did.
It's clear the Leafs need better defense and more consistency.
Tonight they could have won but gave up 3 different leads.
Will not be surprised if Matthews was injured. Nylander just took a million or two off his contract for his relative no show in the playoffs. - Aaron_85
Both matthews and nylander just lost cash.
Garbage
Our d was always bad...said it all season but lou just ignored me.

Gardiner is going to get a lot of irrational hate because the hopes and dreams of fans were pissed on tonight but he's far from the only guy worthy of getting blamed. Where was the rest of the team? What the (frank) was Andersen doing on half those goals?
Gardiner is far from the best all-around defender but his positives usually outweigh the negatives. His contract has 1 year left on it so maybe he's a candidate to get moved to recover assets but what he brings to the team still needs to be replaced and that will not be easy to do. - Unholy_Goalie
Replace him with dermott and sign carlsson. Done. |

Really wish Matthews showed up this playoffs
Oh well, always next year. - Santo_44
If he isn't injured, this performance was beyond disappointing. Even Nylander snapped out of it once he got away from Matthews.

I don't think management is going to make a move based on one game. If they did that, we'd be trading Andersen for Reimer
That being said, Gardiner has continually been hot/cold/mostlycold and it's time for him to go. We would be losing a lot of offense but we lack on the back end, but holy (frank), it's probably worth it. - UsernameUnknown
It’s no secret, teams dump the puck on his side, he either fumbles it, get stripped of it or gives it away.
5 years and he is still a bonehead on D. Enough of it. |

ive never seen a dman so nonchalant on the ice when poops on the line. its embarassing. (frank)ing get a shot off, (frank)ing skate the puck, take them in the corner, do something - TheMussel
He constantly turns the puck over. Leafs have possession - over to Jake - up the ice to a Bruin and back in they come. And when he's standing still - doomed. Frank him...hard! |

When the leafs were winning I called it that Bettman would step in. Those "4 on 4s" "coincidental minors" weren't really coincidence at all, it was Bettman knowing the Brooins had an advantage in those stat areas. Sorry leafs fans, victims to a business decision. - ifaughtthelaw
Same thing happened in the 2011 Bolts-Bruins series - zero penalties called in the entire game, despite numerous blatant offenses. League knew the Bolts were leaning hard on the PP, so they took it away. It's not an outright "fix", but it's a hard nudge to push the outcome of the game into a direction favorable to the league.

I'm proud of this team. They're not ready yet but it doesn't mean they can't learn from this series. You have to lose before you can win. The Leafs got taught a lesson by the Bruins throughout this series and they'll learn from it. Changes must be made but the core of this team is as young and as strong as it's ever been. Babcock was right when he said there will be pain. Pain in finishing dead last, pain in fighting for a playoff spot and pain in competing in the playoffs.

Matthews and Nylander both no shows all playoffs, Matthews must be injured, but Nylander needs to go. What a fan base, they were both just bad. Next year they probably won’t be. - ClarksonDavid
Nylander picked it up once he was removed from Matthews' line.
