our definition of mediocre picks/prospects is the breaking point. Ill just leave it there.
- Sabresfan-365

I just don’t see how u can be upset at ROR for “not moving the needle”
but be ok trading him for picks that are just as likely (or more actually) to turn out as Girgensons as they are Pasternak

Average players get picked in the mid-late 1st MUCH more than difference makers

It’s like saying that OEL & Chychrun were part of the problem for Arizona

Or Kane & Toews were the problem with Chicago

And on, and on, and on

90% of our team was just brutal for the 1st half
When there’s THAT MUCH GOING WRONG...
sure, u wanna see the talented guys playing better (even Jack could’ve been better!)
But expecting them to carrry all the AHL scrubs & terrible play from basically the whole roster just isn’t realistic

Even McDavid & Draisaitl couldn’t do that this year for the Oilers

That never happens in Buffalo, with Jack and Casey as centers. RoR becomes their defensive center by necessity.
- Lunaion

That’s a good point actually
If Mittelstadt becomes a stud, then trading O’Reilly does make sense

My biggest problem isn’t moving him
It’s what we are trading him for
Bc if its just for “parts”
Then i guess I’d rather have ROR as the best 3C in the league

Because i don't think ROR is that valuable, Im not as down on his potential removal from this team. So risking those odds on say the 11th overall pick is worth it to me because even if it busts, I can cover my risk by finding placeholders till mittelstadt is ready (or someone else becomes available).

When McDavid is on the ice, the Oilers are a top 3 team in terms of scoring, chances etc

When Pat Kane is on the ice, Chicago controls play, scores a bunch more

When Ryan O'Reilly is on the ice, we are still bad

the fact he's comparing them means it's time to retire

This just goes back to my point that u don’t give ROR the credit he deserves

What if we sign “player x” to play the defensive center role, and let ROR just play

Anyone who watched him on team Canada can see that O’Reilly is a really good player

No, Oreilly is not Connor McDavid nor has remotely the same on-ice impact he does.

Stop with the nonsense

Then why’d u bother to comment?

Just keep ignoring the situations players are in bc it doesn’t fit your narrative & there aren’t stats to quantify it

Huh?
ROR took the most defensive zone faceoffs in the league

Larsson gave him little relief in that area
We’d need someone to take MUCH more of the load off of O’Reilly

Wouldn't that also cut into ROR's ice time?

Sure, a bit
I don’t think he needs 20min to “not be effective 5v5” like u guys say

Fresh legs will help him be more effective in 17min of icetime

I'm still waiting to hear why keeping a guy at 7.5 on the cap who now needs help at both ends of the ice is a good idea.

A defensive 4th line center wouldn't play enough to change much. If RoR stays, his dzone start % will increase next season.

I remember Cullen taking a lot of faceoffs as 4C for Pitt,
while Crosby, Malkin & Kessel (all on different lines) still got plenty of icetime

It can be done
And since Botts came from Pitt,
it’s reasonable to at least think he’s considering the kind of setup i suggested

Again...
I’m ok trading ROR if it’s for a legit player

I’d just rather have the best 3C in the league than to trade him for parts

We have tons of salary coming off the books the next 2 years so that his 7.5m isn’t gonna be an issue
