i realize Evander Kane is an enigma, but from a hockey sense, he's exactly what this team needs. a legit 25 goal scoring shoot first winger. if they don't get Tavares, and they want to spend bank, that's who they should target. i'm not saying they NEED to spend money (but they kinda should)

again, i don't see a Kane in our pipeline. what does he get? 6.5? 7?

Is Jack Hughes really projected to be that good??
- ajw12

also, at this point, yes. But I don't have a great read on him.

If Mono stops by, ask him about him. He'll write you an essay.

The proposed deal for "exceptional player status" Aaron Ekblad was Simmonds (3 years younger, granted), a mid-round 1st, and a 1st the following year. Is Dahlin really being touted that much more than Ekblad was?
- jmatchett383

You wouldn't be asking that question if he was Canadian. Dahlin is definitely looked at as a better prospect than Ekblad though.

He was wrong about Brayden Point and therefore every evaluation he has ever posted here should be taken with a grain of salt.

I'm not projecting him to be a bust, either. I just think when people say things like, "He's the next second-greatest defenseman to ever play hockey," I find that a bit hard to believe, being as he's yet to play one game of NA pro hockey.
- jmatchett383

Yeah, I get that. But strictly based on trading value, it's what your projection is. I think it was Button who said he's the best D prospect at the time of the draft since Denis Potvin.

You have to give value of Denis Potvin to get a guy who might turn out like that. That's why no one will trade for the number one pick this year. And I know, I'm not saying anything you don't know.

Well, at least you didn't call him a "consistent 30-goal scorer."

It's not like he's playing in Juniors against mid pubescent boys. He's playing against men and has been since he was 16. He's make people in the SHL look silly, that's probably the 4th best league in the world (NHL, AHL/KHL, SHL). He's not going to bust, he might not be Lidstrom, but he's not a bust. At worst he does not get better and is still right now a 3/4 dman.

Is he can't-miss more or less than Alexander Daigle and Bryan Berard?

I'm not trying to dump on the guy, I just have a hard time giving up half of a team for a guy who's never played a North American pro game in his life.

- jmatchett383

which is why he isn't getting traded. It doesn't mean he isn't worth it

I can't answer that, I've only seen a bit at the World Juniors and some film clips. He has good size, great wheels and skills, plays a smart, poised game and at age 17, he was playing against grown men and doing more than holding his own.

I think overall, scouting has gotten better and players are being much better scrutinized today, both in their on ice play and mental attitude, than they were back in Daigle's and Berard's day. Also, in defense of Berard, he was never the same after getting a puck in the eye.

I wouldn't move our 3 best prospects and multiple picks for him, because you're right, you can never really know and there is always the risk that the guy gets injured or whatnot. I was just throwing out there what it will likely cost to acquire the player.

Reading Bill s tweets on both Neuvy and Elliott. Both will probably need surgery, but should be ready to go for training camp. Sigh.

Fair enough. Was just trying to find the best way to free up money (going forward) if we actually wanted to get Tavares.

also from reading his tweets, it seems as though Mrazek was told he isn't going to get a QO

JFC, Neuvy spends more time with surgeons than Joan Rivers did.

Finding some pictures of rival GMs having sex with farm animals and then trading both Weise and Lehtera to that team for a 3rd round pick would be a good start.

At this point, I assume UPenn just keeps an OR open for Neuvirth.

i know JT is better than vorachek but it almost seems likr a lateral move. if we sign JT we basically have to trade jake and besides we alrrady habe what looks to be bonifide 1c and 2c. getting rid of a top winger (where we dont have depth) seems like it will hurt more than help. plus JT and Jake put up similair point totals. While i would love to see him in orange and black im not sure it makes sense unless a trade of jake could bring back at least a first, a high end prospect and a solid (think 45 pt) winger

Not sure what the new trainer can do, unless the old trainer required Neuvirth to violently smashing bricks against his hips on a daily basis.
