yes, if he puts up 55 points, pretty that will mean he is one of the top goal scoring D men in the league again, I think they will pay him 7-8 long term - wcorvette

I mean he just had his best NHL season and was predominantly a 2nd line player for the 2nd half of the season. I’m in no hurry to trade one of the elite RWs in the NHL. - arichardson22
That's why it's called sell high my friend. Would you like Jake and a 3rd line center we are likely to overpay for or Tavares plus the 1st rounder, the A-B prospect, the middle 6 winger on an okay deal we could get in a Jake trade. |

I see him right around what Doughty got. 8 years 7 per. |

I think Tavares at 10-11 would be a gross overpayment.
He should fall in between 7-9, with 9 being some crazy ass team who has to overpay to get him (hopefully we don’t have to overpay) - MikesPillBottle
Look at the trend, Toews/Kane 10.5, Eichel 10, McDavid 12.5. Contracts are going up and up. Not saying Tavares would be seeking 12.5, but I highly doubt where ever he ends up, it's less than 9 million. |

With the cap going north of 80 million, there is no way in hell that Provy's agent is going to take 6.5 per over 8 years. It will be at least 64 million for 8 years or he's going to sign short term. The guy was one of the leading goal scoring Dmen last year without top pp unit time, he plays nearly 25 minutes a night and a lot of it against top lines and on the PK. Plus, until he got hurt, he was approaching 30 minutes a night in the playoffs. Most experts see him as future Norris finalist and potential Norris winner too.
Getting him long term for less than 8 million aav is a pipe dream. - BiggE
Your right. Ekblad got 7.5 per 2 years ago. ok 8 mil |

I understand selling high and all, but I don’t think Jake is easily replaceable. Especially when it’s not a gurarentee JT signs here (unless you mean trade after signing JT). If the 3C is a 2-3 year deal and Simmonds is traded then I think we can afford to overpay slightly for a stopgap 3C. Rather than shelling out a 7 year deal. I love JT don’t get me wrong. |

Here's a proposal I threw out:
Assuming St. Louis doesn't win the lottery, trade Simmonds, Voracek, and 2 2018 1sts for 1st overall, draft Dahlin.
Sign Tavares
Trade Sanheim (who would now be redundant, in a good way) for a young top-6 winger (Tuch, Fischer) to replace Voracek/Simmonds.
Thoughts? |

You have to factor in how many years ago that was and where the cap was at that point. His current deal started in 2011, the cap was what, 20 million lower then it will be going into next season? If the Doughty was at the same age and same point in his career today, you'd be looking at an aav of 9 million or so. Face it, you cannot compare contracts from 7 years ago to ones that will be signed this summer. Apples and oranges.

That's a whole lot of moves and it also assumes that what will likely be a pretty bad team that is holding that 1st overall pick wants to give up a potential Norris Dman for 2 aging wingers and 2 mid round firsts. I don't see it happening.

Kane and Toews got paid for services rendered. Eichel and McDavid haven't won anything yet.
I think tavares is a little more like Stamkos in a way. Stamkos took less to stay with a contender. Tavares could take something like that to join a contender. |

I'll throw in a slightly used Radko Gudas. Actually, I'd even include Rubstov, as I'm not really sold on him. |

Odds are, a team that has that pick will want something like the following to move it to us:
Both 2018 firsts
Sanheim
Frost
Hart
Scouts are calling this kid the next Nick Lidstrom. He isn't getting moved unless it's for a Lindros like haul.

So would you look at the Byfuglien deal which was signed in 2016-2017? 5 years 7.6 million?
I would assume the Flyers would want max years so 8 years. Subban's at 9 million but he also was coming off a cheap bridge deal. |

I'd rather target Montreals pick if they are at 4 and get one of Zadina, Svechnikov or Tkatchuk. Probably would be Tkatchuk at 4. |

I would look at the Ekblad deal 2 years ago. 7.5 mil. He also still was fresh in everyones minds about being the #1 overall pick. I think the Flyers could get Provorov with that exact deal |

Forgot him. Good call.
So your probably looking at 7 to 8 depending on what he wants or they agree on |
