If Buffalo moves on from Lehner and he doesn't get a QO, would he interest you as a 26 year old goalie? I am not sure his contract would be huge as he would probably be on a prove it type deal.

I have no doubt Hexy does his diligence and kicks the tires on Tavares. He wouldn't be doing his job otherwise. I just honestly think when he sees that 11 aav tag he passes and we continue on the path he set.

I don't know if he signs at 10 or 11 million. I think players see it will but a strain on teams trying to put together a team with depth. Hell Edmonton is already worried about their future cap because McDavid is at 12 and Draisatl is at 8.75. those deals kick in soon.
- J35Bacher

I think Tavares at 10-11 would be a gross overpayment.

He should fall in between 7-9, with 9 being some crazy ass team who has to overpay to get him (hopefully we don’t have to overpay)

And no matter how good we think or know provorov is...I don't think he gets more than 7. He doesn't have the scoring numbers. They will lock him into an ultra friendly long term contract. I even think it could be around 6.5 per over 8 years

Its absolutely ridiculous how one says they shouldn't consider it when you could move voracek which would get you a package of picks/prospects/roster players(winger) and all Tavares costs you is jakes money plus another one or two mil. Are people that in love with Jake?

Jake does NOT have an NTC of any kind which is rare for someone capable of putting up the numbers that he does

- Just5

I mean he just had his best NHL season and was predominantly a 2nd line player for the 2nd half of the season. I’m in no hurry to trade one of the elite RWs in the NHL.

I'm not a huge Lehner fan, but I'll take him as an upgrade over either of the 2 we currently have under contract.

You have a point there.

It is still pretty impressive depth to have a 30 goal guy on each of your top 3 lines regardless of how they achieved it.

- MBFlyerfan

No doubt. They go about it differently than the Flyers (partially because they have the luxury of doing so). Rust/Sheary aren't top line forwards on most teams. That is why it is key the Flyers give chances to their young forwards. Could you imagine the season if they never put Konecny on the top line?

it is the beauty of developing your own players, you get the shot at the bridge contract or long term. If he improves his numbers this season, say he gets 50 plus points, he will get 7-8

I am leaning in that direction as well. Though if they part ways with one it will be Neuvirth.
- MBFlyerfan

Ugh, coming back with both would just suck. One is coming off a major core surgery, did not look anywhere near 100% when he came back and just turned 33, The other can't seem to get through a week without getting injured in some way.

If I'm one of the better players on this team, while I'd certainly keep it to myself, I'd be pretty frustrated if no upgrade in goal was made.

He is physically talented enough to be a really good goalie. His mind is not there. If someone is willing to take a shot at locking him in mentally and succeeds they will have a really nice piece. I don't see that coming easily and I don't want it to be the Flyers.

god dammit, i got a late start this morning and everyone's already waist deep in talking about stuff i wanna talk about!!!!

as for people making a point to JT....sure, it sounds fine. i doubt they do it because i DO think he asks for A LOT. the flyers have a ton of forwards in the system...not sure how many project to top 6 scorers outside of Frost. definitely more size and skating ability on the wings. i feel out of all the prospects it's more probable another center to stick with Couts and Patrick (Frost) that can put the puck in the net develops than a top 6 goal scorer in the next couple years. Allison and Ratcliffe could develop, but big kids take longer. See: also Lindblom.

the need for goal scoring, with our without Wayne Simmonds, in the top 6 and PP is more of a need from outside of the organization. if we get a chance to get Tavares, (frank), go for it. if it's based on just UFA's only, i'd much rather spend the big money on a scoring winger. worst case they use Laughton/AHL prospect/Lethera at 3C until the trade deadline. not the upgrade they need, but as i've said, it's easier to improve at wing via UFA than center, outside of JT

You do have to wonder if playing in Buffalo has hurt him. Just like what O'Reilly said, did he falter because mentally you've been in a state of losing?

With the cap going north of 80 million, there is no way in hell that Provy's agent is going to take 6.5 per over 8 years. It will be at least 64 million for 8 years or he's going to sign short term. The guy was one of the leading goal scoring Dmen last year without top pp unit time, he plays nearly 25 minutes a night and a lot of it against top lines and on the PK. Plus, until he got hurt, he was approaching 30 minutes a night in the playoffs. Most experts see him as future Norris finalist and potential Norris winner too.

Getting him long term for less than 8 million aav is a pipe dream.

Pretty much how I see it, though at the least, I'd still take him over Neuvirth. That being said, I'd rather see them make a deal for a legit #1.

I think being crazy has hurt him. I think if Elliott, Neuvirth, and Mrazek have you frustrated with goaltending, Lehner will ask you to hold his beer.

yes, if he puts up 55 points, pretty that will mean he is one of the top goal scoring D men in the league again, I think they will pay him 7-8 long term
