While I can see that thought process. In a perfect world, moving Coots back to 3C where he can dominate, like he did on one leg in game 6, would be pretty amazing.
- MBFlyerfan

People want to slot Coots into 1C or 2C....that's great...wherever along the top 3 lines doesn't matter. What matters is he's making 3C money for the next 4 years.

And all that could be true.

I think I disagree with the thought that "it doesn't make sense for the flyers" or "it doesn't fit Hextall's plan".

- J35Bacher

I agree with you, in fact if they sign him it doesn't affect the plan just the CAP. They will still have a top farm system and good young players on the roster. Could it affect the signing of Provy and the gang? sure. However, there are always ways to work the Cap, see Pitt. Does a JT make your wingers better? yes. Will he help younger wingers coming in? yes. Will JT play if Philly? probably not. If he doesn't sign with the Isles, then he is going for money and the fit, that will be 11 mil, no thank you.

Folks sign in Pitt because of Malkin and Crosby, they sign with the Rangers because it is NY. I do agree that with Philly sport teams all on the upswing, playing in Philly is becoming more attractive.

yup...our tax system is brutal....considering the cheque even a meer mortal like me had to write yesterday...but his ability to make it up on endorsements would close that gap pretty quickly. When they talked with Stamkos, the owners of Canadian Tire and Tim Hortons were part of the meeting. Hockey in Toronto and southern Ontario is still the biggest game in town. JT would own this city.

great point on the endorsements.

I think he has like 18 points in 14 games...I watched a few of their game in the PO's and to me he still looks pretty damn good.
- landros 2

how much weight do you think he can put on over the summer?

Someone said Pittsburgh has a 30 goal scorer on each of their 3 lines. That's what it takes now serious scoring from 3 lines

2 years from now Pitt will have Crosby, Malkin close to their mid 30's at hits of 9.5, 8.75 and 6.8. I guess as long as the CAP goes up its max they should be ok.

It actually makes perfect sense for the Flyers to at least consider Tavares.

Tavares is a superstar player entering his prime. In case you are drunk on orange and black koolaid, the biggest risk the Flyers currently have is the synergy between the primes of our current core and the upcoming kids.

Signing Tavares would align the time horizon Hextall has concocted to legitimately compete for a Stanley cup.

I don't know if he signs at 10 or 11 million. I think players see it will but a strain on teams trying to put together a team with depth. Hell Edmonton is already worried about their future cap because McDavid is at 12 and Draisatl is at 8.75. those deals kick in soon.

I have no idea....but I think he is already bigger then Johnny Gudreau ...
I'm sure they want all 18-19-20 year prospects to get stronger, Frost would be no different.

It really is a three scoring line game in today's NHL. (for the contenders)

FWIW, I'm assuming Gudas is moved, and Simmonds is not. I also think Weise gets waived and sent to LHV and that Leier gets waived as well. With that in mind, this is how I think the roster could look next season.

FORWARDS
G-Couts-TK
Lindblom-Patrick-Voracek
Laughton or Raffl-?1-Simmonds
Laughton or Raffl-Vecchione or Lehtera-Weal or Aube-Kubel

DEFENSE
Provorov-Ghost or Hagg
Sanheim-AMac
Morin-Ghost or Hagg

GOAL
?2
Elliott or Neuvirth

?1: I don't believe that the Flyers have an in house player ready to step in and be the 3C. I also don't see a great fill available in free agency. I think they could try to trade Gudas, who as a 28 year old RH shot DMan has value, to fill that spot.

?2: I'm in the group that doesn't see both goalies coming back and I also don't think Hextall wants to go into 18-19 with one of the returning vets and one of Lyon/Stolarz. I think a trade will be made involving pick(s) and/or a prospect along with one of our existing goalies (possibly with some money retained on the one year they have left) to get a legit #1 goalie.

honestly 10 and I sign him. They can work out the Cap somehow or someway. To win it all you will have risk, I hate them but the Pens found a way to get Kessel and then Brassard.

Agree on the needs, I think you are right, they will make a trade for a goalie or sign one, probably trade a goalie and sign one

What about an offer sheet for Riley Sheanan? Even if Pitt matches it will be fun

If Buffalo moves on from Lehner and he doesn't get a QO, would he interest you as a 26 year old goalie? I am not sure his contract would be huge as he would probably be on a prove it type deal.

Its absolutely ridiculous how one says they shouldn't consider it when you could move voracek which would get you a package of picks/prospects/roster players(winger) and all Tavares costs you is jakes money plus another one or two mil. Are people that in love with Jake?

Jake does NOT have an NTC of any kind which is rare for someone capable of putting up the numbers that he does

I have no doubt Hexy does his diligence and kicks the tires on Tavares. He wouldn't be doing his job otherwise. I just honestly think when he sees that 11 aav tag he passes and we continue on the path he set.

It's not often a free agent like Tavares hits the market. Hextall should be looking at the situation.

You have a point there.

It is still pretty impressive depth to have a 30 goal guy on each of your top 3 lines regardless of how they achieved it.

I am leaning in that direction as well. Though if they part ways with one it will be Neuvirth.
