I turned it off as soon as he walked on the ice.........go Leafs
- scorachek

Dude is 100% a hack. Horrible singer, horrible suits, horrible bowtie, horrible mustache, horrible hair, horrible fist pumps. Would enjoy the Leafs winning just so this guy can crawl back into whatever sarcophagus he rose from.

I think this is his last season doing it right?

I think we can also put to rest whether he's traded in the off season based on what Giroux said.

Giroux: Wayne was hurt this year. Things he plays through.... he is almost crazy. Next year, you will see the Wayne Simmonds we are all used to seeing. He's a guy we all love to play with.

- Baxter27

Doesn’t matter what the players think. Not like they have been a great teM with this core. 1 playoff win in 7 seasons. Slow starts, long losing streaks, I could go on. Bottom line they need to move on from some of this leadership group and a guy who is 30 and plays a style where your body will continue to break down needs to go. Probably play out the year with him but after that see ya. Love what he did during his time here. But it would be beyond ridiculous to sign him long term as he will be a shell of himself before the contract is up.

if tavares would sign say an 8 year deal for 75 mil with the flyers (granted, im sure another team would pay more and some might even think thats a gross overpay, but i think its at the very least a decent median) i have a hard time thinking why the flyers shouldnt do it.

feel free to ignore this comment if you guys already hashed this out into oblivion. some of us have jobs that arent so conducive to limitless banter

You think he would be a shell of himself before the contract is up. Truth is you really don't know if that will be the case. I hear you about the risk involved but calling it beyond ridiculous to re-sign a player of Simmonds caliber to a long term deal is well, ridiculous.

Lauren isn't that good either but she's better than this talentless corpse.

The sixers guy- the double amputee- he does a hell of a job

Good game going on right now with Boston and TO.

The Suter contract is a poor comparable for Provorov.
- MJL

I mean, Suter was a UFA so Provorov's agent doesn't have nearly as much bargaining power, but my point was if I'm Ivan's agent I'm saying something like "tell me why we should even consider a max term deal for anything less than this 5 year old contract." I'm not even saying Suter's price tag was good, (it absolutely wasn't in 2013 dollars) but when guys get overpaid it pushes the value up that everyone can ask for. Suter, Ekblad, compare it to whoever you want. He's an elite #1 dman who isn't on his teams first powerplay unit, which is rare. His agent will probably argue that on any other team Ivan is quarterbacking the top powerplay unit and puts up 55+ points.

I just think its very unlikely his cap hit is anything under 7.5 if he's signed for 7 or 8 years, that's all.

The bottom line is this leadership group has never had anything to lead. The team has been thin all over the place since 2012. Now that a half decade rebuild is starting to get results is not the time to pull the plug on guys who played well and with heart when the team just wasn't good at all.

Nobody can offer 8 years except NYI. Teams that aren't the UFAs current team can only offer 7. And honestly I think its an awful rule that makes it very unlikely that very talented players ever hit the FA market. I hope that is changed in the next CBA.

Well said.

The lack of depth on this team has put the leaders on this team, for the last 6 years, in a produce everything or the team produces nothing situation.

Hextall has to find some quality lower line depth for this team. Starting with a 3C.

I think that is the glaring need they must do something about and the options aren't overwhelming. Bring back Filppula, step up Laughton or Lehtera or sign somebody like Bozak or Stajan. I'd take Filppula at the right term and still have money for a short term add on the wing. I think nature will take its' course with the D, another wing and Mr. Hart in net.

For all the folks screaming about dumping the vets now, look what TOR went out and did this year: added Marleau, Hainsey and Plekanec. Combined age? 110! Seems to be working OK at the moment.

So the pelvic tear is a month to month and half injury according to Simmonds. Would have been back by thanksgiving. He also said the groin pull was related to it. This is unbelievable to me. I respect toughness but not stupidity and this whole situation is bordering on the latter

I would kick the tires with Minny, see if Staal is available. He would be perfect as a 3C. They just fired their GM so perhaps he may be available, doubtful but man he would fit in perfectly.

Boston up 5-4. I'm conflicted with this series. I hate Boston but I really can't stand leaf fans and I never want them to have an ounce of hockey related joy.

Worth looking into for sure but he wouldn't come cheap although his cap hit is a bargain and he is UFA after next year. Minnesota has been stuck in the mud awhile. Good enough to get in but not out of the 1st round.

Here is what you're missing about Suter's contract. He signed his deal under the old CBA where you could front load contracts and place low salary years on the back end to lower the AAV. There are 3 years at the end of Suter's contract with salaries of 2M, 1M, and 1M. He signed a 13 year deal for 98M. If you take away those 3 years, his AAV would 9.4M That is more representative of the contract.
Provorov is very good and is certainly headed in that direction but I don't think he is at the level of elite in the league yet.
