What we should probably be coming to terms with is that we are paying two wingers over 8 million a year in salary for many years to come...and looking at that. Is there anyone else doing that? - Just5
You can do it because you got your 1C on a below-market contract for what a 1C normally gets in his prime
I know what you're saying, though. It's not ideal when people making 8M aren't scoring in the playoffs, but they had amazing regular seasons that got them there
It's a sour taste when they don't score in the playoffs, though. I get it

Honestly to me when it actually comes to biggest need I see goaltender and 3C as the biggest concerns.
Another season of Elliot or Neuvirth being to go to guy is throwing away any success in the playoffs. If they want to give a shot to one of the kids they have tried to develop in Lyon/Stolarz I can understand that, and to a point agree with it.
Like the shootout, not enough emphasis is put on goaltending quality imo. - flyer_nutter
I am absolutely not gonna criticize Elliott -- I had voiced my concerns about him prior to last season, but he played well enough before he got hurt. He wasn't healthy in the playoffs. I don't love him as a player, but he's good enough to be in a tandem
Now if it's me, though, Neuvirth is gone. Don't care how you do it. Completely unreliable goalie. Completely unreliable. I wouldn't trust "change a trainer" farther than I could throw him

And no matter how good we think or know provorov is...I don't think he gets more than 7. He doesn't have the scoring numbers. They will lock him into an ultra friendly long term contract. I even think it could be around 6.5 per over 8 years - Just5
the guy scored 17 goals in his second season without first line PP time. |

I'm not immediately buying Elliott springing back to his prior form before injury. He isn't exactly a spring chicken. That's my worry. |

It's a concern -- anytime they start messing around with core muscles for goalies, you'd have to worry, you'd think

He never started more than 55 games in a season and the last time he did that was almost 10 years ago! I was worried when they signed him and Mr. Glass to be a tandem, especially with Stolarz requiring major surgery. WTF did Hexy expect |

So who are you pulling for tonight? For me, it's the lesser of 2 evils.
Toronto - the most annoying fan base in the world. Despite not having won since expansion, they think that every player on their team is a prized asset, and they're annoying as hell at visitor's stadiums. And although I like Matthews, I don't like the team in general ever since the Tie Domi/Adam Burt incident.
Boston - I despise the team. The fans are bumholes, but so are Flyers' fans, so that's a wash. But I definitely cannot stand the team, especially Brad Marchand. I do like McAvoy, and I respect Bergeron, but that's where it ends.
In the end, it's Toronto fans vs. the Bruins team. The tiebreaker is Jack Edwards, so I'm pulling for Toronto, and then pulling for them to get swept by Tampa Bay. - jmatchett383

Seeing Simmer pound that scumbag DeAngelo into the ice is one of my favorite moments of the past few seasons, tbh.
I would hate to see him go, as he was clearly hampered all year by various injuries. - FloHaake

Admire his courage but there is no way in hell Provorov should've been playing on Sunday. Careless decision by the training + coaching staff and organization not to rule him out. Even worse decision not to dress 7 D knowing how injured he was. - Baxter27
the Doctors left it up to Provorov. same with Couturier. I would have done the same to be honest. Simmonds playing with a groin issue and he hand broken his hand. Hockey players .......that's what they do |

I'm not a fan of players playing as injured as Provorov, Couturier, and Simmonds were. This is a dangerous mentality that sends a poor message to other players that are injured that if they speak up, they'll be viewed poorly by their teammates and organization.
Players with the mental makeup of Provy, Couturier, and Simmonds will never declare themselves ineligible to play. Provorov himself said that as long as his arm was attached, he was going to play. It is up to the organization to recognize the type of players they are and do their job in protecting the player for the long term good of the team.
I don't find playing through such injuries to be a virtue. To me its just dumb. |

So Neuvirth will have a double hip scope and is changing his trainer
Elliott may beed an additional cleanout medical procedure
Provorov grade 3 AC joint shoulder sprain
Couturier MCL tear
Simmonds groin pull and broken hand

I played in the 2007 USA hockey women's nationals with a really screwed up back and I am not even a pro playing for the Stanley Cup. i get it and would absolutely do the same. As long as players aren't risking permanent injury I dont blame them one bit for playing |

I understand playing through injuries during the playoffs or rushing back to be ready for the playoffs, but regular season injuries I wish these guys would just take the time to actually fix it. |

I like good players, really good players, excellent players, as much as the next person. I really do.
If Nolan Patrick hadn't dropped into the Flyers' laps, I would be leading the "Sign Tavares" brigade.
But Patrick did. And to me, because of what I believe I have seen from Patrick, I would prefer to use the money required to sign a Tavares elsewhere on the roster.
I know the Flyers have prospects. I know the defense isn't the worst around, has good pieces.
But I don't love that defense. I don't. It's only his first year, but the reason Sanheim kept getting the hook is because he plays a little soft.
Not saying he needs to turn into Chris Pronger. But he's not as hard on the puck as he could be, and if that doesn't change, this coach isn't gonna put up with it. And to be honest, I wouldn't either. I admire Sanheim's metrics as much as anybody, but the Flyers need more than just underlying metrics when people are cutting across the middle and going to the net.
You have to play a bigger game -- Ghost was getting killed in this series because he wasn't playing big boy hockey. It's OK to be a puckmover and offensive defenseman. But at some point, the puck's in your end and you need to separate people from it with authority.
So to me, you investigate defensive options. I am not naming any names. I haven't looked at free agency.
I think the Flyers could pass on Tavares, snag a 3C, and pump money into a legitimate attempt to infuse a very good defenseman into this lineup that pushes everybody except Provorov and maybe Ghost down a spot - AllInForFlyers
The Flyers are also a team that create super stars. Nolan Patrick, Travis Konecny, Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim and Shayne Gostisbehere are all stars in the making. So let's build around this crop right now. Not just through the draft. I like Scott Laughton. I like Samuel Morin. I like Phillip Myer. Let's get the right guys now.
I think Voracek can fetch us a top ten draft pick in this draft and a young roster player with high potential. |

How does it make sense to trade a 3rd round pick for Mrazek, then play two injured goaltenders who are average at best when healthy during the playoffs? |
