Sure it would be painful. I’m guessing he was taking pain killers. This is how athletes get addicted to things like oxy.

Players are dopey kids. I’ve been there. The doc tells you you have a tear. The next thing you do is ask the doc if you can play on it. So what’s the doc say? Well, you can play on it, but it’s gonna hurt and you’ll be unstable and weak, but we’ll give you these pain killers and this brace and if you’re really tough you can play. If the doc had any balls he’d tell the player that there is no way he should play on it. Get it fixed now.

- Dkos

Maybe the Doctor did tell him that. We don't know.

Let me be the first to tell me to go (frank) myself for wanting Simmonds traded this offseason.

Having a guy like that in the room can be no greater example to the young players on this team.

- MBFlyerfan

I get that. However, maybe if he sat out 2 months to heal, he could have been more effective. If you're not playing well, you're not doing yourself or the team any favors.

Machand would be a perfect flyer mean skilled streetsmart very physical for his size.
- Landsbergfan

Nope want no part of him.

Meanie and skilled, absolutely, would love him. It's his cheap poop I wouldn't be able to stand.

And for reference, I wanted Gudas thrown out of the league for his guillotine chop.

i agree with both of you, kind of torn on this one...

1. What was their option if he didnt play? Would it have been as good as a hurt simmer?

2. if they trade him, what are their options for next season? who do you replace a healthy/motivated simmer with?

For those who think some of the trade proposals around here are whacked, take a moment to go the Leafs thread.

JFC, some of the sh!t getting slung around there makes every one here look like Keith Allen!

make your predictions...

CAPS vs PENS
Tampa vs Bruins

I got

CAPS vs Tampa

yeah voting with who I want a little not just who will win.

- wcorvette

My Picks:
Caps over Pens in 6
This Pens team has holes and Ovi is on a mission, I can't wait to chat with Kenny from Jersey City after this series!

Lightning over Bruins in 6
Unlike the Leafs, the Bolts have some quality Dmen and a top notch goalie. Bruins had some real difficulty with the Leafs speed and they are going to see more of the same with Tampa. Plus, I have no confidence in Rask winning another series.

And, in the West
Sharks over Vegas in 6
It's hard to pick against Vegas, but the Sharks are just on fire right now. I think San Jose gets a split in Vegas and doesn't lose a home game in the series.

Preds over Jets in 7
This is going to be a great a series, but in the end, I'll go with Rinne in a do or die game 7 over the much more untested Hellebuyck.

Yeah, I respect the hell out of Simmonds, but he made the wrong call. If the tear was diagnosed at the start of camp, we are talking about late September. If he has the surgery right away, he's back by early November and only misses 15 or so games. The guy is a warrior and I understand where his heart is, but sometimes you have to use your head instead. We don't know what went on behind the scenes and probably never will, but someone should have done what it took to convince him to have the surgery.

Agreed. I really don't want to see the Flyers adding a high priced winger right now. They need to be concentrating on finding a 3rd good center and upgrading in goal.

Right now I'm leaning heavily towards keeping him. He's a heart and soul player on this team and they should be a playoff team next year. Sometimes you just have to face the possibility that you may lose a guy in free agency. OTOH, he's made it pretty clear that he loves it here and wants to stay. Perhaps, if the money is right, you can sign him to a 4 year extension.

Either way, going into 18-19 with a top nine of the following wouldn't be a bad thing at all. Of course the big question mark is who fills that 3rd line center spot.

Likely the same as what went on here during the Pens series. Too much emotion involved.

It's worse. Calling for Mathews to be traded would be like folks here exploring trades involving Provorov.

It's a whole other level of ridiculous.

It’s settled the Toronto and Philly GMs have zero choice the leafs will trade Austin Mathews to the flyers straight up for Ghost as to many Leaf fans are not happy with Mathews this playoffs.
The fans have spoken.

The level of ridiculous was extremely high on here. Many going off the deep end especially concerning the coach.
