Liked what he had to say, a lot about speed and attack.

Very optimistic

Yeah, unfortunately he doesn't actually coach that way. Everything runs through the D. Forwards have to cover for them. If an offensively skilled wing spends too much time attacking instead of covering for the D who ALWAYS has the green light to go, he'll see his minutes drop.

That's Bill's go to move.

I would guess Monahan-Brouwer and Gaudreau-Jankowski are going to be things, while Backlund will be trying to carry a couple pure grinders on another line that will get more ice-time at even strength than any other.

Bennett will get 8 minutes per night if he doesn't score right away.

- BINGO!

Lazar gets top line minutes?

Probably on the wing with Gaudreau and Jankowski.

It's brutal. He splits guys up based on size and tries to puts a positive possession guy with weaker ones to try and balance it out so none of the lines get caved in at even strength, but it crushes the offensive abilities of those guys.

He specifically said that Johnny and Monahan will not be split up. Now what he says, and what he does could be completely different. Unless it happens though, there's no reason to think they won't play together.

Peters said in his press conference he wouldn't be splitting up Johnny and Mony. I mean, why would you. Everybody else will be up in the air aside from Gio and Dougie tho. I like the 3M line as long as Tkachuk is on the left wing, they were pretty flat points wise without him tho.

We need BT to get a top 6 RW this offseason to keep Brouwer in the bottom 6

He probably did that on the account of your lack of forward depth, but we'll see.

On that note, one of the things that does worry me is Eric Staals resurgence after leaving Carolina. Was it because Peters played him so poorly, or was it the fresh start that helped Staal. Time will tell I guess..

You'd have to think the whole thing was stagnating for him, not just Peters. Although, you never know. Maybe we are in for a dumpster fire next season.

Up until this season he has been. If Mackinnon can repeat then ya, he's better. Not very often, if ever, does a player double his stats and have it stick though. Don't expect 90+ points again next year. 70 is probably realistic.

It wouldn't have mattered if the Flames hired (insert out of work coaches name here). Everyone would female dog and moan about something. We know the Hartley/Keenan way doesn't/didn't work. GG was ok but couldn't (motivate/encourage/develop/give hand jobs-who f'n knows) so of the crop available and not waiting all summer to choose, I think Peters was a (safe) choice...

He begins his tenure now, meets the scouting group, management, players, and brings in a coaching staff so at least he/they become familiar to the organization. He will likely be involved in player selection/trades/signings (and hopefully demotions). poop it hasn't even been 8 hours and we are already writing the guy off.

I actually agree! Not sure what the rush was? You think he would have waited to see where the chips fall. Looks like Boudreau will be gone in Minnesota with the firing of Fletcher. May be others once teams get eliminated.

It was both.

Peters thought Eric Staal should be a second line left wing. Staal thought he should still be a 1C.

The fresh start certainly helped Eric, but Peters mistrust of offensively talented players is infurating.

At the end of the year he talked about how he didn't want Valentin Zykov, the AHL's leading goalscorer, on his team because he was concerned that Zykov had a poor +/- in the AHL.

Once called up, Zykov put up 7 points in 10 NHL games.

Peters routinely criticizes players for their defensive play, but seemingly puts little value on the offensive talents of those same players.

Let me put it this way... the Hurricanes had no set offensive plays the past few years. They never practiced them aside from what Aho and Teravainen worked on together after practice.

If he is, you aren't going to get better because of it.

It took until February 8th for the canes to stop giving Marcus Kruger a regular shift and put him on Waivers, because Peters wanted him there.

Kruger averaged less than a shot per game with 11 minutes of ice time per night. He had more turnovers in 48 games this year than he had in 70 games last year. He scored one goal.

But Bill Peters kept putting him out there nightly, and it didn't get better until the management group started taking his toys away.

Bill makes no in season adjustments to his system. He also make no offseason adjustments to his system.

Makes sense. One thing BP DOES do well is he likes to keep pairs of forwards together and then rotate an extra C out there with them, changing them out based on what side of the ice the faceoff is on.

Puts a crazy amount of emphasis on winning the draw.
