Your page-long “I don’t care” note really hammers home just how much you don’t care
- AxlRose91

Many Jets fans (and fans of other western teams) are frustrated with the persistent and usually subconscious bias concerning their teams. A large part of the bias is driven by economics/population density however it spills over into all parts of the game.

TSN sportsnet has an interesting example of this. The 'Man of STIHL' moniker is named to a player for every night of the playoffs. For the past two years (I didn't watch before that) approximately 75% of the daily winners are from eastern conference teams in spite of equal number of games and great plays/players being in the west.

Concerning Jets - over the past three years Scheifle and/or Wheeler have been in the top 5 in the league in goals/assists/points yet neither had been voted to an all-star game until wheeler snuck in this season. Voters chose Buff and Laine - interesting players but not the best of the Jets.

If you are not seeing bias it's because you haven't had to live with it as part of your team's identity. Snubs are the norm from free agents to awards to minutes of media coverage to national exposure to knowledge of the broadcasters about the team/players. It goes on and on. When charlie says he really doesn't care - you are probably right - it does bug him (and me), what he really meant to say was (frank) you.

Nobody remembers the runner-ups, so if we concede that Barzal is the deserving winner, what does it matter where Connor finished in the voting ?

Friday. Such a long wait. I originally thought the wait might not be in the Jets best interests because and earlier start such as Wednesday might not have given Nashville enough time to rest up. However they essentially are injury free while we have four guys listed as day-day not including Ehlers ( who is already back). Two of those should be ready by Friday, Enstrom and Armia. Mason might be ready as well, hard to say, but certainly can use the extra time. Finally there is the mystery man , Perreault. No doubt the extra time will also benefit him although for all we know he might be a month away...no idea. My guess is maybe by game four or five.

Then there is the question of whether Maurice should play Enstrom against a big physical team vs a guy like Poolman who has proven to be quite solid and physical. IMHO I think you give Enstrom a try in game one and see how he makes out. If he get completely crushed every time he goes near a corner then its bye bye Toby .

Yes, that's the dilemma. Poolman has 2 games, plus one, played well, 6' 2", 200 lbs, RHS. He will not displace anyone on the RHS without injuries, so there is the left side with Morrisey, Chairot, and Morrow. It is nice to have Toby back but the left side is already in the groove of playoff hockey. I thinkToby goes in with Buff and Morrow and Poolman go to the press box. I guess we are fortunste to have two extra bodies that can play because we know injuries happen. I would like to see them both continue playing but I know that is not realistic till there is an injury.

2 things I said later in the season came to fruition. (Forgive me as I toot my own horn)

1) Wheeler has leadership qualities, drive and a subscription to Mark Messier type of leadership - Now he is nominated for the Mark Messier leadership award - (which he will win)

2) When everyone was talking trade before the trade deadline and Nash's name kept popping up, I said "don't trade for Nash, he will disappear in the playoffs". 6 games played, 1 goal, minus 3, and Nash is having a tough time. So, this is nothing new with Nash. However, having said this, he is skating well and playing defensive minded hockey (according to the pundits) but just not putting points up - yet.

I say Boston wins 4 - 2 tonite unless Anderson steals the game again.

I think Enstrom should be paired with Myers. Buff has clearly proven he can carry Chairot or Morrow better than Myers in our own end. Let Buff decide who he’d rather play with and please let Enstrom help out Myers in our end!! I called into the 1290 morning show and said the same thing the other day. I’m not trying to beat up on Myers and whoever he is paired with but my guess is they will be on the ice for 75% of the goals against vrs Nashville

Myers, whatever. He had a better first round than most Jets D plus added offence. More importantly its best Buff is on the ice with Toby as the little guy's protector. I think Nashville players will think twice about flattening Toby with the mean streak in Buff cruising nearby. Its a good pairing .

This is absolutely not a real question. Even Paul Maurice knows better than to sit Enstrom, or even play Chiapet or the Giraffe ahead of him.

If Toby is healthy, he’s in the top 4. You don’t bench your best defensive defenceman (whom is top 5 in the league, defensively speaking) against the top team in the league, in the playoffs no less, for no reason other than being under 6’. Everyone from Chipman to the zamboni drivers understand this.

Why are you more caught up in how many hits Tony takes rather than the results his game brings? I’m not knocking Myers offence, he’s had two huge goals and I love it but Myers with either Morrow or Chairot will be the Achilles heel of this team against Nashville

It’s likely safer and easier just to put Toby with Buff, and limit the Morrow/Myers duo’s minutes. Buff is likely a bit on the cautious side with Morrow, while any defensive impact Enstrom has is likely undone by Myers’ hamming it up out there. Best to let Toby cover for Buff killing everyone, while Myers can dominate lines 3 and 4 with sheltered minutes.

I guess it is a bit of a worry of Enstrom taking the big crunch and takes him out of the game(s). But, with our depth, perhaps it doesn't matter if Toby gets steamrolled in the corner as we have depth where as in 2015, we lacked D depth. Maybe he doesn't get steamrolled at all, hopefully that is the case.

It will be interesting to see if Nashville tries to take a page from the Ducks 2015 playbook and throw the puck into Toby's corner and then get on him hard. I am sure we will see that indication pretty much right away if that is what Nashville is planning for strategy.

I guess we will see what PoMo or Huddy do in D pairings for opening night.

Good points though on who can shelter who better on D. We will see how the forecasted 75% benchmark for goals against plays out over the course of the series.

Go Jets!

I trust Toby more than Chiarot or Morrow, he will be back alongside Buff. Chiarot will likely pair with Myers on 3rd pair. Toby's size/injury history are irrelevant - he plays a courageous game and doesn't lose battles. Enstrom is not a clutch guy who will win the game for you but he sure makes it easy on linemates with good exits and consistent all round play. We are a better team with him in the lineup.

Pure speculation:

Is Kulikov coming back (doesn't look like it). Could it be that when Chevy picked him up he was looking ahead to 2018/19 season when Voynov may be eligible to return to the NHL? The two played on Russian Junior team together. Are they friends? We have seen other friendships used by Chevy to help attract players such as Frolik/Pav/Tlusty, Copp may have been part of the Trouba strategy originally, lots of Americans, Finns. No Russians until Kulikov... Another interesting one is the Tanev signing - is this a second toe-in-the-door for Chris Tanev when going free agency (first was MB Moose history)?

It is pure speculation. If this were true than Kessel would have jumped at the opportunity to play with his best friend: Blake Wheeler. I love Russian players, however have little respect for Voynov. Any "man" that puts his hands on a woman is someone I don't want representing the my city.

I agree wholly that Voynov did wrong and his action was dispicable, however, there has to be a way forward if he has accepted that what he did was wrong, made appropriate changes to his psyche and life and commits to making amends. Nothing will undo what has been done but creating outcasts doesn't solve anything either. I am willing to hear what Voynov has done to change.
