Hey! Can you guys guess what? No, not that I haven't left the house today. That much is obvious. But I HAVE just posted a new blog for you (s)cum-lords to go read (or not) and use as fodder to mock and harass me (or not)!

Don't have to get them; they're all theoretical after all!

This is more just a means for me to add structure to my life, to build a habit of writing on a consistent basis which I can hope will improve my lexicon and writing skills and to document a history of my analysis of the sport I love to see how right or wrong I am when viewed in hindsight.

Worst case scenario, it's a hobby that just takes up time and makes me look a tad foolish. Best case scenario, I eventually get involved in working for a hockey team and will have a backlog of brilliant talent evaluation to support my hiring

But how else is experience gained than by study, discussion and eventual action? Worth considering that even though I may not be right, I'm at least opening up my ideas for intellectual challenge and critique. The mere process of engaging in the exchange of ideas that exposes your opinions to be picked apart, debated or supported with a perspective grounded in other information is a valuable one for the growth of my mind- regardless of ultimate result.

Besides, simply being middle-aged doesn't mean you know your poop; those who know their poop at that age are often those who committed to learning and studying from a young age.

He doesn’t have the worst ideas ever, they just sound like they come from a guy that’s only watched the game for 6 or 7 years.

He’s still has the whole pathetic copycat mentality that if team A wins the cup then in order to win any hopefuls must be constructed in a similar manner and play a similar style...not realizing every 5-7 years the game changes (he hasn’t followed the game long enough to know this) and everyone tries to copy the new champs way of playing. He relies too heavily on stats ( trying to make up for true knowledge and wisdom gained from decades of observation) and doesn’t have any appreciation for veterans or leadership ( because their importance cannot be measured statistically).

He can argue all he wants, but 15 years from now he’ll know I’m right.

Gonna disagree that I have no appreciation for those things. It certainly may not be equivalent to how you proportionally value each factor but I understand and appreciate all those factors to some degree.

I'll completely disagree that I'm simply playing the copycat game. For that I'd have to be advocating for the acquisition of a guy like Kessel to spread the offense across 3 lines when in actuality I'm advocating for the pursuit of things that are more often than not traits that can adapt to various styles of play. In fact, I've seen more evidence that supports the idea of a hybrid of traditional line structures and the more fluid, modern approach.

Its easy for you suggest this but then not offer opinions to counter mine. Why are my suggestions so hair-brained? What make yours superior? Give me some examples. Or is that your whole point? That the mere act of positing opinions on the matter is a silly, youthful endeavour; that even trying isn't worth it. I'd argue that's worse. Balancing the enthusiasm of youth and realism of experience is the key. EDIT: Not intending to strawman you here, just trying to understand your point.

I can go further but based off your last sentence there, you've succumbed to the opposite side that you're claiming I've fallen victim to. Not really much point debating someone so ardently convinced of their belief that they won't even entertain the possibility of an alternative.

I've read rumors of Gulutzan coming in as an assistant and Trent Tawney sliding in as D coach. In that case, what you said makes sense if Gulutzan is taking on the PP 🤙
