there is definitely merit to that perspective. i was referring strictly to just sheer number of top picks. like you said, of course so much of it is just when it happens too. my point was mainly that for all of the tanking/sucking, the pens were only ever technically awarded one first overall choice.

Yeah, no doubt. In terms of pure lottery fortune, their ping pong ball luck was unprecedented. It became comical.

I think he means for the current post-season. If that's allowed.

Oh yeah

Totally makes sense now.

He means to join the Phantoms now for their playoff run. That was my take anyway.

I don't see the Pens getting past Boston/Tampa with that D corps and a Matt Murray who has been shaky at times.

CBJ and Wash might be problematic too, depending on how bad Shrek is hurt.

Agreed. I think Pens fans are going to have to be happy with 2 in a row...

Although, to be fair, part of me is yelling: Never count out the f'n Pens!

itll suck if/when it happens, but the back to back is quite comforting.

murray needs to get hot, and malkin obviously needs to be healthy. the ruhwedel and oleksiak pairing has to be better. just need to make the clears when its there.

Yeah, those 2 Stanley Cup wins can take away a lot of the sting.

I'd like to wish you luck, but it's literally physically impossible for me to do so and I fear for the universe if I had to try...

Just saw that Couturier's MCL was torn. That dude is a bad, bad man -- I have had one before. Your knee is totally unstable and it freaking hurts.

Yeah, he's a professional athlete and has access to medical treatments I didn't, and he's 6-4, 215 pounds and in his prime.

But to me, that is one tough dude. Ridiculously tough. Whatever haters might say about this team, this season, whatever, that dude is TOUGH.

Has any team ever in playoff history given up 8 goals and won the game? I can't think of one time that's worked.

We are trying to sell our house near the beach in LA (think: about a mile above the Baywatch beach for those old enough to remember). I accidentally hit button 5 on my sat radio and the game came on and it was 4-4 after two. poop. I needed to kill about three hours before I could go home to watch the epic win right? After letting my 6 year old drive the golf cart all over Riviera CC while we played about 4 holes in no specific order, I got the urge to check my phone. Then I got the urge to puke.

You can't give up 8 goals and expect anything other than to lose in the playoffs. Sorry.

Been around here since the site opened and I don't comment much.

Why is Giroux not held to the same standard that Philadelphia fans would admonish Crosby or Malkin for?

I had a feeling Philly would do to the Pens what New York did to us a few years ago, so I threw on Mike Langes' broadcast on the radio and went golfing...couldn't watch - I thought we were done.

The play off the faceoff he waved at a puck and dropped today. He did a lot of disappearing. I'm assuming he was injured but didn't hear anything. His greatest impact was hitting so my guess is a wrist or arm injury.

Any insights from you guys out East?

They don't allow golf carts on the road or sidewalks in that neighborhood.

and that window will be closing in a few years crosby is already a 13 year vet. malkin right there. let’s see how they do without gifts like those guys, and MAF, staal. will they draft well or fall into the abyss and then get another gift?

we’re just starting to rise. lots more talent on the way.

- hammarby31

Hopefully this time they make smart moves with the talent they have. Flyers actually have a very impressive drafting record from an outsider's perspective, their first round picks all seem to develop into useful players and they find some gems in the later rounds. The one move that killed them was the Bryz/Bobrovsky move, to me that was management trying to rush it and not waiting for players to develop. Looking good for the future, cant believe Couturier is only 25 still....

My lifestyle isn't quite as cool as the California guys but pretty insane nonetheless. I accidentally caught the score watching porn. See I like to spank it to homemade amateur porn (with my designer tissues of course, and $200 hand lotion) and I was doing so (on my 4K tv) and the couple must have been in philly watching the game. I saw the score on the tv was 4-4 and I thought, I gotta wrap this up and watch the game. By the time I finished though it was 7-4. Ugh

Oh my neighbor is an nhl player too!!!

It was amusing how the announcers were trying to turn Phil's little tussle with G after that monster hit on Hagelin into some act of bravery and a rallying point for his team. Maybe they were amazed he wasn't back on the bench with his head down sucking wind?

Also, in Australia, Hagelin took a dive. (inside joke)

- wolfhounds

Oh 100%. He saw a Giroux elbow coming at him with speed & tried (unsuccessfully), to avoid it. He needs to watch more Flyers games.

Absolutely horrible coaching job by Hakstol, Who should be gone. Playing Gudas was bad in itself but playing INJURED people who cant shoot on a PP is moronic. He wont be fired because Hextall thinks he's a genius , maybe Hextall's job should be looked at. He's made some bad trades, FA signings as well

Clear out The deadwood, bring in more youth
Find a 3C
Upgrade in goal
Find a new coach for the PK

The above is a must for this team to improve. Personally, I think it’s time for a new coach but I doubt Hextall makes that move yet.
