In all seriousness what do folks here think our chances of landing Tavares are?

I’m in the camp that I feel like he’d fit in nicely timing wise with his cap hit. I feel like the pieces are there for this move, and not to have another year of stockpiling “assets” aka picks.

Are we getting our hopes up in this being a realistic possibility? If I’m Tavares, I would think the young upcoming roster on this team is pretty attractive. Combine that with management that actually wants to win, and I’d have to at least entertain it. Plus the home rink isn’t in Brooklyn.

five Stanley cups begs to differ with you. The flyers havent been relevant in 30 years. Your point is ridiculous

Take it elsewhere troll. The Flyers fans in here were doing fine with hassling Richie Rich before you trotted in.

Anyone have a video of the first pittsburgh goal? Did Neuvirth leave that rebound out there, think he saw it all the way unless I'm mistaken.

What on God's green earth is your definition of "relevant"? Because the Flyers have had great teams over the past 30 years and subsequently went to five Stanley Cup finals since 1980. I'd say they've been majorly relevant.

Is he UFA? He'll be commanding a big check. Clarke or Holmer would have gone for it, but somehow I don't see that kind of move fitting Hexy's agenda.

Hunh?

Do you watch a lot of Fox News because you are talking some factual crap? Limbaugh style. Hannity style. Pure crap.

The Flyers are the second winningest franchise in the post 1967 expansion era behind the 24 (correct me if I got that Yankee-like number wrong but its close) Cup winning Habs. The Flyers have won TWO Cups and have been FIVE more times since then. How is that not relevant? What was Pittsburgh doing for decades at a time? When did the Flyers go for sale for $39,000,000? That's for the WHOLE FRANCHISE. Don't ask how I know the price but I do.

The Flyers are likely worth the better part of 1 BILLION DOLLARS (insert Dr. Evil voice here) and are one of the winningest, most profitable, most successful franchises in pro sports. I doubt Comcast will ever sell them. They shouldn't. I wouldn't blame them for hiring me to replace Hexy if he falters because THAT is what it will take for me to move back to Philly. Is that too much to ask? Its cold where you people live. How do you golf in February? Seriously?

What the HELL would the Flyers do with Tavares when they have Giroux, Couts, Patrick and more coming up the middle?

The Rangers will get Tavares if the Isles don't pay him 12m x8. Stamkos money PLUS and its worth it. The Rangers need him. Vancouver has BOTH Sedin's $$$ to pay him. Other teams would want him.

We, thankfully, don't need him NOR am I scare of him in a Smurf jersey. Are you?

you can be worth a trillion dollars, the bottom line are cups and correct me if I'm wrong, you haven't won one in over 30 years. In that time the pens have been to 6 winning five. Winning during the regular season doesn't mean jack. So you keep fooling yourself into thinking this team is relevant.

Giroux played wing the entire year. And not sure if you missed it while golfing riviera but Val Filppula was our 1st line center the last two games. In my opinion we could fit JT in somehow

yeah its just a matter of cap working and being ready to pull the trigger now. you dont pass on signing JT due to worrying about blocking someone from the spot.

OK - perhaps Brian Roberts isn't calling me to be the next GM of the Flyers but can't a man dream?

With that said, Philly is a tough (although affordable) place to live. The weather just sucks most of the year. The golf is GREAT however. Merion, Pine Valley, Aronomink, Gulf Mills, Philly Cricket Club. Jesus, its SOLID. I love coming back in the fall when the weather is good.

I was in Chicago last weekend with the hopes of playing Medinah (trying to play the Top 100 courses in the US and this one is a glaring omission on my golf resume) and it was 37, sleeting and so windy you couldn't stand up. I did some business, put my board shorts and flip flops on at O'hare and went back to LA. I am soft despite living three doors down from Dave Schultz as a baby - my HERO!!!

Just note: Ed Snyder didn't winter in Philly with all of the money in the world. He lived in Monticito, CA - perhaps the nicest neighborhood in the nation. Up there with the Hamptons and a few others. Santa Barbara's best. Hammered by flooding this year but still the nicest place you've ever seen. Just gorgeous, year round.

When the league hands you two generational players so your franchise doesn’t fold be gracious and enjoy your ride dude but remember how bad the Pens were to get there.

I have been a Filpulla fan for years. Sleeper fantasy pick.

I would have him back at the right price but that might be 1x 2.5m? Something like that. He might get more elsewhere.

He's a LOT better than Leterah. Seems like a solid locker room guy too.

My issue with him is $$$ and term.

He'd fit fine anywhere on the team except in the cap hit

When we get second overall picks - CHI gets Kane and we get JVR. Not that JVR is chopped meat but he's no Malkin OK?

I can't complain about our last 2nd pick as Patrick is a stud in the making. No more Mono and other BS. Feed him some Tony Luke's or Dellasandros and get him ready for next year. OK?

Exiting times!

Sorry for sharing details of my life today. I didn't see the posted rule "never share a detail of your life on this forum or jealous trolls will malign you"

You should root for every Philly boy (or girl, or NastyGirl...for that matter) to do well. Do you not want me to tell you which NHL players I get to play golf with next?

first - thanks again bill for your fantastic coverage all year as always.

their top guys came up incredibly small. when you have that on top of losing the special teams battle and your depth guys also hurting you - literally and figuratively - you get this.

sure they’re overmatched. still- they had a 2 goal lead on home ice late in the 2nd period and gudas destroyed it all. they had a chance to tie it on the 4 on 3 and blew that. they were awful in the 3rd period. 10 minutes without a shot.

it’s a shame coots got injured in practice and provorov got hurt at the end of game 5. still those guys were overall very good. what more can you ask from anyone? 5 point night and they lost? ridiculous.

neuvirth was hung out to dry- not his fault.

incredibly disappointing way to end this season.

i never want to see manning or gudas in a flyers jersey again. i know hak will return. not a fan. a ton of other dead weight has to go.

future is bright. just get here already.

Flyers haven't tanked (twice) in the past 30 years either, so there's that. And they've been relevant, just haven't brought home the big prize.
