Well, since Ryan Strome is just as good as Jordan Eberle...
Honestly, I have no interest in Strome. Bennett is more like it. - jmatchett383
If they get him I can change my name to SuperStromeBros. |

I agree with all of this. He has gotten the goalie cupboards to levels I have never seen with this organization.
Yes, they are ALL prospects and none of them could pan out. I grant that. But then again, even if 2 pan out, that is pretty good odds.
The others can be used, along with other prospects, to fill holes when the time comes. I don't think it is that time yet.
I guess I am a little more patient than I have a right to be. I am not looking at it as a 40 year drought. I am looking at it as the Hextall era, where the organizational mentality needed to be changed from the ground up. I'm banking on this team being strong for a long time in the near future.
If you (no one in particular) don't like that I feel that way, that is your problem. - MBFlyerfan
The true window for the Flyers to not only be competitive, but have an actual advantage over other teams is when the young prospects Hextall has been drafting hit their prime together. ANY move that takes away from that specific time period should be looked at as a negative.
Could the Flyers send a 1st to take a stab at a new goalie or maybe a new center? Sure. But missing on that would hurt more than hitting on it would help, IMO. I trust Frost and Hart to be contributing players in the near future. |

I’d like to see them bring in a new goalie this summer. I love having a big prospect pool of goalies and at least two seem to have really good potential.
But for the next two seasons at least they need to address the position.
Elliot and Neuvirth again for next year doesn’t work. I don’t know what happens with Neuvirth as he is signed for another year but I’m not at all comfortable with him coming back.
Elliot and Lyon is not a good plan either.
I think Elliot will be back and he gave them solid goaltending before getting hurt. I think he’d be a great 1B or back up but don’t like the idea of him getting 50+ starts as the number 1 guy, with Lyon or Stolarz or Neuvy as the number 2. We’d have a repeat of this season or worse with 4-5 goalies getting used. No thanks.
This doesn’t mean they have to go get a high priced guy on a 5 year or longer deal either.
But I do think they need a better stop gap plan for the next 2-3 seasons then what they had this year.

What are you trying to say? Elliot and Neuvy were good in the playoffs this year? While not the whole problem the goaltending was a good part of the problem losing to the pens. - bird_dog_pa
The goaltending was pretty bad, all things considered, this past playoff season.
However, in 3 of the games, the offense produced a total of 1 goal. I don't think Patrick Roy in his prime is going to win you those 3 games.
In Game Six, the Flyers had numerous ergregious breakdowns. Although Neuvirth didn't make any outstanding saves, it wasn't like he gave up softies, either. At best, they take that game to OT.
So what I am trying to say is that simply having an A+ goalie doesn't guarantee success if the team around him isn't going to do their part. |

the locker room needs an attitude change, the core has been accustomed to losing. Add some players but make sure to add some attitude. |

In my mind, Carter Hutton is really the only worthwhile UFA goalie this offseason. |

Well, Huet is French, so I'm guessing it's something that involves running away from Germans!

yeah, that's what makes it difficult....i dont' think they SHOULD trade Simmonds, and top scoring wingers is something this team is void of, but if they trade him for a goalie and pick up a top 6 winger in FA??? i dunno.

Yeah, I don't think Hak is going anywhere.
Furthermore, I'm guessing in the executive suites, this season will be considered a successful one for the coach. - johndewar

That was an embarrassing end to a very annoying season. If Hak is back I won't be watching in 18-19. This team has no chance of real success with him as coach. - Feanor

Good grief I hope you aren’t serious. Thank god you aren’t the GM of the Flyers. That’s not an overpayment that’s absurd. |

But signing Tavares at say 8.5-9 million doesn't change the plan in my view. You can purge away a contract like Voracek if needed when the time comes to pay someone like konecny. Also in a vcoracek deal you recoup some picks or prospects in restock at some places.
I think this is one of those rare times you can get a superstar without making a trade. LA traded for Carter and Richards to be pieces to put them over the top. tavares is just money.
I don't see how Tavares stops you from the draft and develop path. - J35Bacher
It doesn't but with Couturier, patrick, Frost and other center prospects in the pipeline, adding a big ticket free agent center doesn't make sense. Voracek and a top scoring winger. We need that and moving him would create a big hole.

They had real success with him this season. He will be back and he should be. It's a shame you won't watch because of a coach. |
