Gudas during most of his Flyers career was a much better puck handler than given credit for. I think the hitting isn't as big of a deal as his puck management. When he is on his game he is good at breaking out of the zone. That didn't happen a lot this year and it certainly didn't happen a lot in Game 6. I would bet they are better off value wise of seeing if he plays better next year, but obviously he isn't part of the long term future so if Hextall can move him for something worth it he should. I really wouldn't mind a good depth forward for him
- YuenglingJagr

He was good with the puck, but he was awful this year.

If people are willing to move Simmonds after a bad year, it should be double for Gudas (return notwithstanding).

I think most that are willing to move Simmonds because of a bad year are willing to do so for Gudas.

My preference on trading Simmonds has nothing to do with the bad year. A bad year makes me want to trade him less, actually

mad mad props to provy. Wow

Now I read he wa in tears after the loss. THAT's what we need on the team. Players that take the losses that hard and give it all and more. Hexy Clarke lindros and other cared this much and that will eventually get us to where we need to be to contend.

- Hextall271

Seconded.... He felt so bad about those 2 turnovers that lead to Pitt goals

Letang is a POS. Blatant cross check that could have put Couturier's head into the post, and then a trip that could have led to Couturier hitting his head on the ice.

Couturier is going to need a few months to heal up. He had a great season, and then followed it up with an amazing series. I think he's gained the respect of the entire hockey world with his showing.

- PLindbergh31

and knowing Couturier had a torn MCL i cringe about that play even more.

Agreed, it could be trading low in him. If the return is there, I wouldn’t think twice. I don’t like what he’ll demand combined with his age.

Right. I don’t see the roster needing a shakeup other trying to clear out dead wood. There’s not enough pieces to figure out how they are going to fit yet. They added Patrick and traded Schenn last summer which was significant. Let Simmonds come back hopefully healthy and see what he and the prospects do for another year. If he goes to ufa so be it. Ronny at this point wants this team to push more and more towards the playoffs

I don't think him not being here means that he couldn't have been here. NAK will get a shot to carve out an NHL role, something Leier has struggled to do. I think NAK is more creative than Leier.

Depth is about the only thing that is going to move the needle for the Flyers. Once they get production from young depth forwards they will be sitting pretty.

- YuenglingJagr

Do you think Vorobiev has a shot at playing C for the Flyers next year?

I don’t see Hexy going the UFA route in a big expensive way to replace Filp as the 3C.

Laughton looks like a better fit at wing then center.

Can you believe the Penguins drafted Eric Tangradi ahead of PK Subban, and then took Kevin Vellieux ahead of Wayne Simmonds, and then 4 more players ahead of Jamie Benn ALL IN THE SAME DRAFT!!! What piss poor management they must have.
- jmatchett383

literally we could go down the list for every franchise and do this. Some teams are better with drafting of course but all in all every franchise has hits and misses. Hidden gems and absolute busts, the Penguins have done a good job finding players in the later rounds which helps them a lot considering they haven't had as much success in the first round outside of the top 5 picks. It certainly helps when you have guys like Malkin and Crosby.

Couturier is going to be great captain someday.
Amazing guy leading by example.

Provorov could be too.

I am still dumbstruck at Laughton being a first round pick. But then, the NY Rangers drafted Hugh Jessiman, he of the two NHL games, 12th overall. If you look at that 2003 draft there are a number of players chosen after him who the Rangers missed out on.
- bodiva88

that wasn't exactly the strongest draft in the later round but doing the 20/20 hindsight exercise the player I would have liked the most from 20-30 is tanner pearson.

I forgot about vorobyov. He prob had the best shot at making an impact on the roster next year from Lehigh. He is already 21 I believe. Would like to try him at 4c

Yeah. I touched on him a couple days back. I like him a lot. He was still transitioning a bit to the smaller ice, so I have some doubts as to how effective he will be right away at the NHL level. I think part of it would come down to linemates. I think he could win a job though and is good enough/big enough to play in the NHL.

Lindblom appeared to really struggle with the tempo and physicality of the playoffs. I’m looking forward to a full season from him next year. He has the tools to learn from it

I thin he does. With the progression Couturier and Patrick showed i think you could go with a young 3rd line center. he has the size and skills. And plays a good two way game.

If not I do wonder if you could see another one year type player. Kind of how they got Filppula. make a trade for a vet who another team wants to move. I'll use Spezza just as an example. I have seen dallas wants to move him, wold you take him if you don't feel someone inhouse is ready for say a 5th rounder if Dallas retained salary? He has one year left at 7.5 million. What if you got him for next year at 4 million?

Just an example.

Honestly, are we really going to get into today with fan behavior?

I don't think I have the patience for this.

I think those fans just wanted to make sure the cans were recycled properly. It was Earth Day after all.

And the way he landed on his back had to hurt like hell. You get your feet taken out from under you like that with no way to brace yourself and it's no fun. I can't imagine how physically sore he must feel this morning. Huge props to that guy and to Provorov as well. A shame their efforts weren't rewarded by at least playing a game 7.
Those two ridiculous turnovers by Gudas was the game. All it took were simple plays and he couldn't even do that.

Of all the things we admire about Snider, the one that strikes me is that he found private funding for both the Spectrum and the Core States/First Union/Wachovia/Wells Fargo Center.

There was a lot, it seemed to me, and sitting near the glass, I was sprayed by the beer left in some of the cans thrown. I don't think they should serve anything in cans or bottles at playoff games. Drunks with bad aims can hurt people.

- bodiva88

I still can't believe they give people cans rather than pouring it into a cup the way they used to. Someone throwing a can of beer was inevitable.

If you trade Gudas and Simmonds, let all UFAs walk, does John Carlson become an attractive and do-able signing?
