He played the puck before the player was hit. Legal play by Letang. Just like if you hit a player in the face while following through on a shot. Yet people get mad anyway.

The ruling on this was changed a few years ago I'm pretty sure, unless they changed it again. Even if he touches the puck first it's still a tripping penalty. I'm not blaming that solely for the loss, they gave up a 2 goal lead, and I don't think they were going to win the series anyway.

Entertaining game overall.

He helped, but they managed to score 4 more goals without him on the ice.
- Tojo.

Yes. But if the Flyers go into the 3rd up 4-2, and not giving up a goal in the final minute, I think the 3rd may have played out differently.

That's only for a player on a breakaway to create more penalty shots.

Still, I think the clipped the skates before the puck. I think he knew exactly what he was doing.

IMO it wasn’t just tying the game in the 2nd, it’s when they did.

There’s something even more deflating about letting up a last minute goal.

Yeah, it was a pretty terrible miss by the refs.

MAF would not have started/played any game of this series, so I’m not sure how him being here would have affected the outcome.

Murray’s only bad game was Game 6. Prior to Game 6, he let in a couple of weak goals through five games and was the reason the Pens didn’t lose some of them.

there's no reason to talk about MAF, he plays for Vegas.

The fact that Phil got a penalty for chasing Clod around the ice is ridiculous. That hit was a penalty. No suspension but easily charging.

I was at this taco joint watching the game next to a Flyers fan and I just looked over to him and said "Sorry man, that was (frank)ing bad. Shoulda been a trip all day."

Ive totally let MAF go haha. It was more so pointing out Murray's very inconsistent play in that series.

Couts tried to sell that Letang trip. Or he was so worried about his leg he tried to jump it.

I'm not going to debate if the hit was a charge. But how can you say that Kessel getting a penalty for punching Giroux is ridiculous?

"Rule 57 – Tripping

The rule relating to "Tripping" will be revised to specifically provide that a two minute minor penalty will be assessed when a defending player "dives" and trips an attacking player with his body/arm/shoulder, regardless of whether the defending player is able to make initial contact with the puck.

But, in situations where a penalty shot might otherwise be appropriate, if the defending player "dives" and touches the puck first (before the trip), no penalty shot will be awarded. (In such cases, the resulting penalty will be limited to a two-minute minor penalty for tripping.)"

This is from NHL.com. Am I just completely misunderstanding this? The second paragraph seems to be referencing a trip on a breakaway, the first any diving trip?

When did he punch him? He spun him a round and Clod skated away. Twice.

There was more Punching in front of the net after every whistle then in that sequence.

Yeah....no. He didn't get the penalty when he chased/grabbed him, he got a penalty after Giroux got away and Kessel swung at him.

They showed the replay of it during the intermission, not after the penalty (I thought the same thing at the time).

Pens in general were very inconsistent. I don't think it was just Murray, so I'm not sure having another tendy would change anything.

Rule 57 – Tripping
57.1 Tripping – A player shall not place the stick, knee, foot, arm, hand or
elbow in such a manner that causes his opponent to trip or fall.
Accidental trips which occur simultaneously with a completed play
will not be penalized. Accidental trips occurring simultaneously with or
after a stoppage of play will not be penalized.

Sounds like the Letang play to me.

After reading his MCL injury, I thought maybe this. Not necessarily diving, but trying to keep from further injury.

Nah he tripped him. It wasn't called because of the embellishment.

Letang didn't "dive" at him and certainly didn't trip him with his body/arm/shoulder. Seems like this rule doesn't address normal stick checks. Letang got puck first with his stick, his stick tripped Couturier. The above rule ignores that scenario.

Meh most of the force there would have been on the outer side of his left knee not the inner side of his right knee (the injured MCL)

Got it, I think I took it as all trips and this is strictly diving trips.
