Explain logically how one team has more pressure to win than the other. - Feds91Stammer
A team that's never won it before but makes the playoffs every year.
A team thats a favorite but has never won it before. Or are a favorite and have come close in recent history.
A team that was in the basement one year and has just the expectation of making the playoffs, when they do, almost no pressure to win the cup as the two teams i mentioned above.
Youre honestly going to tell me that the Golden Knights and say the Caps, Sharks or Preds all have the same pressure to go all the way? Haha
I know you cant look this kinda thing up on a chart or quantify it with numbers but its a thing man.

Pressure is by definition not a logical feeling to begin with since its counter productive to completing a task and provides no tangible benefits like other negative emotions do (fear, for example, leads you away from potentially dangerous scenarios), so really asking for a logical explanation is dumb.

The Penguins will face Washington in Round 2 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, the first postseason meeting between those teams since 2017. The Capitals have won all but nine of the previous 10 series against Pittsburgh.
Also, we wouldn't have home ice from here on out unless we got SJS in the cup final

Would you mind if I listen to my book on tape? I'm kind of a bookworm. This is the novelization of the movie Precious based on the book Push by Sapphire.

Why does a team that never won it before have more pressure than a team defending back to back cups?

The chances of winning two in a row in the NHL is incredibly difficult and since no team has won three in a row since the early 80’s, I’d say the expectations are fairly low. The narrative for the Pens is doing something few teams have been able to do.
The Caps on the other hand had pressure the last two years because of their levels of a expectations. When you’re the best team in the regular season two years in a row, you’re expected to be able to go deep in the playoffs and haven’t.
In those years I’d argue there was more pressure due to expectations, plus last year going against the team that always seems to stop them from going deep? Being the favorite? There’s more pressure.
This year, not being as dominant of a team, not being the team everyone expects to win, I’d say there’s less pressure due to lower expectations. There’s obviously still pressure, but less IMO.

All I have really seen is the idea of pressure based on external expectations such as the fans and pre season prediction type stuff.
There are internal pressures within each organization.
There are individual pressures within each player. (Maybe Crosby has the most pressure because he wants to be considered the greatest of all time and knows he needs to win 2-3 more cups to do that)
I'm just saying that the blanket statements I have seen here so far about pressure don't include even half of the story.
