It's interesting. Patrick's first half was slow due to his hernia. Also, Guentzel is 4 years older and in his 3rd pro season. Right now, Guentzel is better, but I'd probably take Patrick for strength down the middle.

I just think Guentzel is the better player anywhere (wing or center) Better hockey IQ. Jake can play C although not as good.

Not talking about needs (since we have Brassard and Sheahan too) but specifically who's the better player.

Right now Jake is easily ahead.

As the Pens currently stand I would take Jake over Patrick given Jake's playoff production and chemistry. But if the Pens didn't have Sid/Geno or if there were any other team really, I'd easily take Patrick. Untapped potential, not sure what his ceiling is. Plus he's a center.

That shouldn't necessarily be the deciding factor, though. Potential ceilings and age have to be taken into account. Patrick could easily be way better than G in as soon as two seasons. Plus, centers are always more valuable than wings and Guentzel is not a legit full time NHL center.

Comparatively that's kind of like asking who would you rather have? Jamie Benn or Auston Matthews? Jamie Benn is probably the better player right now, but you'd be a fool to pick him over Matthews.
