Hallam says don't overhype Pettersson, "Let him grow into it, he is a difference maker but still need to be physically stronger. It's tougher in NHL to get scoring chances than in our league." #Canucks

People really need to learn what the "middle ground" is. Yes, Pettersson is an exceptional player. Yes, he still needs to grow into his body. With proper development he can turn into a very good NHL player.

Frank Hallam this is the same jerk off that said Pettersson needs to play another season in SHL

I'd be ok with that but I'm looking forward to him in a Canucks jersey next year.

Reading through some of the Pettersson hype, I consider it a forgone conclusion that he will be on the team next year, and was trying to think about what to expect from him considering the wave of highly successful rookie seasons that have occurred the past few seasons.

In my mind, I cant see him coming out strong like Boeser, Matthews, McDavid and putting up close to a PPG, but more like Stamkos' rookie year. I remember thinking during the first half he should've been sent back, wasnt strong enough but he got better as the season went on and after starting with 18 points in 45 games, ended with 46 in 79

You would be ok with another season in the SHL? I certainly wouldn't be ok with it. He was the best player in the league as a teenager and it wasn't close. He needs a challenge.

If the coach's concerns are valid, then AHL would be the better place to prepare himself

I'm sure he was challenged, it's not easy being good or playing at a high level like that

So ya I'd be ok with it but I'd like to see him on the Canucks roster.

I see an injury waiting to happen. Like a skinny RNH, who was also not big enough but played anyway. I'll be excited no matter where he ends up, I am personally hoping for some time in Utica away from the pressure of the hype but in general think he will be a huge positive come training camp.

the coach is just being selfish. He needs to be playing in NA. Start him out in a sheltered 3rd line role with first unit PP time. He will score 45-55 points.

He's skinny, yes, but unlike RNH and Stamkos he's a year older and has some experience against men. RNH was listed as 171, Stamkos 176. I would guess Pettersson comes in weight closer to Stamkos than Nuge, and looks to be more elusive than either anyways

My comparison to Stamkos is more that I think Pettersson will start slow and get better as the year goes on, whereas RNH stumbled at the end of his rookie season

Of course. Managing/coaching over there has to be very difficult knowing that you'll lose your good players if they are too good, but be relegated if you dont have enough of them

Agreed.

This is Gaudette's coach 2.0

And people keep acting like this is the NHL of 10-15 years ago, hits and fights are at an all time low these days. Even if EP only gains like 5 pounds over the summer, he should be fine. Have someone like Archibald or a similar UFA ride shotgun with him to start the season if there's worry about EP getting sent to the hospital with midgets like Gaudreau doing just fine playing against the Cali teams.

That one goal of his on the empty net in the finals that everyone said was so nice even though on an empty net would not happen in the NHL. He would have been destroyed. The physical barrier is a huge one and not to be understated.

There's no denying that the NHL is more fast paced and physical, smaller rink size with faster/stronger/better players in general. He'll have to adjust, but he's skilled/smart/quick enough to do it.

The NHL is more speed/skill based than ever before, he'll be fine.

So what? He will take some hits and be stronger for it. He is 19 not 17 and he has survived just fine against men for the last two seasons. You can't hit what you can't catch.

Being in NA and playing for the Canucks you have more control over his development. It’s a no brainer for me. He needs to be in NA.
We don’t need him to score 30 goals next year. We need him to learn the system,(team and league) get some muscle and I guarantee he will get there.
It’s not about being to skinny. He is already the best player in a men’s league at 19, now he needs to go to the best league in the world and prove he deserves to be there. The best players want to play in the best league.

For me, its having him learn to navigate the offensive zone on the smaller ice. Its easier to find soft spots in defensive coverage when the area is greater and the players are more spread out. I dont worry about the timing or physical components as much, it wont take him long to figure out, but I want him to continue being productive on the scoresheet which is sometimes difficult to translate to the highest level

The grind of that first year is tough for most young players. Pettersson's off-season work ethic will determine a lot of that.

I think a lot of the things you've mentioned can be done in Utica, but either way I agree and do hope he comes to North America

he went from having a "meh" shot to an amazing one from last season to this season + his skating got even better

All this after getting drafted top 10, I'm guessing his work ethic is pretty damn good

I agree, I'm really looking forward to camp. I'm still on the put him in Utica, at least for a bit. But I'm happy either way really.
