So you want to stack Anaheim's blue line further while acquiring a player we all dislike who's declined a lot in the last few years?

No thanks. Last thing we need is a move like that.

- Helios

Yup that's exactly what I am saying!! Like I said, Friedman said it not me!

I merely suggested Brodie, but you can insert any player you think would be a fair trade, or none of the above for every reason I mentioned when I asked the question.

As for Brodie causing Anaheim's defense to become stacked!!! Brodie is good but he's not the player he used to be.

But hey I do respect your opinion and I do mostly agree with your take, with the exception that both Chucky and Perry on the line together would be entertaining.

It was not.

Jeff Skinner was playing with Derek Ryan and Lee Stempniak.

- BINGO!

That was towards the end of the year I'm assuming. Maybe that was the best chemistry?

Sure, so unless you're calling David Legwand elite these days... my point has been made

And, yes, they had a good corps of defencemen

As for Q this year, c'mon man, this is the first year in, what, a decade plus that Chicago didn't make the playoffs? If you don't think a Babcock, Quenneville etc would get more out of this team, then I might as well be behind the bench

- rmull905

They're both overrated. Sure they're good coaches, but they're not the coaching gods everyone seems to see them as. Most of their success, as is the success of all good coaches, is tied to having ridiculously good rosters to work with.

The effect a coach has on a team is generally overrated. Not that coaching isn't extremely important to a team, but there are far more great coaches out there than there are NHL jobs. Unless you have an idiot GM who hires someone like Rick Tocchet, your team probably has a pretty good coach. The difference between a Babcock and a Gulutzan is minimal.

I agree but that the minimal difference is about 0.91463 goals a game, which translates into a lot of wins.

lol don’t blame the coaches

Not their fault you have an overrated defense and pathetic forests depth

Peters is a better choice than the other names out there

- Nucker101

Where the Fck did I blame the coaches?!?! Go back to your hole and stick to your sad sack Canuck thread! You don’t see us over there do you? There’s a reason.

If we get bill Peters I believe we will b in the western conference finals next season.

Also we must trade a defensemen in order to address scoring depth. If this can happen, we will be unstoppable

How do you figure that. Peters and Gulutzan have very similar strengths and weaknesses. If you look at what Canes fans complain about with Peters, it's the exact same thing that Flames fans complained about with Gulutzan.

Sure the Flames can be as good as anyone next year, but they're going to have to fix things that coaches can't really fix. They need to bury their chances and they can't be let down by goaltending in the second half of the season.

From Canescountry (SBNation):

"....Plenty of talking heads, especially in Canada, have been singing (Peters') praises to the heavens over the past few weeks. Hurricanes fans, meanwhile, can’t shuttle Peters to the waiting cab at the service entrance to PNC Arena fast enough.

"...Peters came in preaching accountability, but outside of a two-game scratching of Victor Rask and his famous “make a [bleeping] save” rant at Eddie Lack, he rarely held anyone accountable. Overtimes featuring Derek Ryan and two defensemen were not only occasionally seen, but they were regular features."

But maybe he can learn to throw sticks once in a while....

Yeah I was going to say pretty much this exactly. I like Peters purely because he's pretty much the Gulutzan in terms of systems, but this team has problems on it that coaching won't fix, and those problems need to be taken care of before the Flames can really take off.

This team certainly has the potential to be a juggernaut in the West, but there are things that still need to be addressed before it gets there.

The other reason it doesn't make a lot of sense to fire Gulutzan only to replace him with Peters is that Gulutzan had a pretty good first year in Calgary. This year could easily have been an aberration. Peters got four years in Carolina and didn't make the playoffs once and didn't even come close.

I want to see a take no poop vet that still has gas in the tank brought in for the top 6 RW slot.

Someone that the young guys will respect and that has no issues dropping the gloves.
I think we still lack a strong veteran voice in the forward group.
