After all these years, still pulling the classic “reading comprehension” comeback.

It’s a huge win-now move. If Doughty doesn’t want to stay, and we don’t win if next year, it’s a huge fail.

Otherwise, it sets us up with a long term top pairing(Doughty/Rielly). Coupled with Tavares signing, it means we also have two #1Cs locked down long-term.

So that’s a pretty sweet situation to be in.

Would never make the deal unless he signed an extension before the trade, which again, he might be more inclined to take if the 8th year is included and the money is right.

2 interesting things for AZ in the offseason.

i) domi may be traded

ii) what they do if they get dahlin.

they need at least 2 scoring forwards and have oel and chychurn on the left side. one may get moved.

- Tumbleweed

Doubt they trade Chychrun and not sure OEL is worth it.

Domi could be an interesting acquisition if the price is low enough.

The constant breaks would piss me off to the point I’d argue with strangers for hours about everything.

I’m not sure the option of staying longer in a place he doesn’t want to be in will make him more likely to stay.

Does he have an NTC?

Again, as a UFA, he gets 7 years. In LA (if he stays) or in Toronto (if they were to acquire him) he could get 8 years. If LA decides they want to rebuild and move on and don't want to spend the money, then whatever team acquires him would get that 1 year left on his deal plus the option to give him the 8 year deal that nobody else can give him.

Doughty said he wouldn't enjoy the microscope but that's probably in a scenario where all things are equal. The Leafs being able to offer him that 8th year at 10+ million, might change his opinion. Even with the tax situation calculated, the Leafs would be giving him the most dollars guaranteed or close enough to it that it could sway him.

He does not have a NTC but it wouldn't matter because if you can't get him to agree to a long term extension, the deal makes no sense.
