Yep I'm hoping this is one of those young lessons learned the hard way.

Its definitely true, their core is old. They do have some good young players, but id expect a regression in the next few years.

Matthews had 0 to do with that goal except losing the draw. Yes it's impossible to guarantee never having a line face another line, but Babs did a good job of keeping Matthews away from Pasta and Toucan Sam. It's not as big a deal as your suggesting. Not even close.

It doesn't matter that the goal was his fault or not. The point is he would see a lot more of Crosby then you think and I don't think he would fair much better.

The one advantage is PIT doesn't have a Chara-McAvoy pairing to keep out against him.

I know we are not to question The Babcock, but I wondered why not matchup the Matthews line against the Reilly Nash line? Without Bergeron, did Babcock really think that he can't beat Reilly Nash?

Chara matched up against Matthews all night, but if you put the Matthews line against the Nash line, than that should have opened up the ice a little more for our other 3 lines. Chara would have to be on the ice when the Nash line was on. I think Babcock got outcoached...

If he keeps everything the same, then despite losing, he refused to try and tinker to get better results. Shame on Babcock. But if he tinkers, it's a gamble and if they lose still, he looks bad. Only way to make him look good is make whatever he DOES do, work. Which is a hard sell no matter what if the product on the ice is under-performing.

I don't know, if he tried something and failed, we can say at least he tried something different.. I know Matthews played over 20 minutes, so it's not a question of more ice time, but I think he could have been used better... The winning goal, notwithstanding as any normal defenseman would do more than whatever Gardiner tried to do..

I think just about everybody agrees on that
