Our D played the 2-1 essentially the worst way they could, and Anderson was out to lunch of the first 2-1 being 18000 feet committed to the shot.

Regardless, we barely got near their net...nobody touched Chara and he did whatever he wanted out there....they played hockey last night like a ringette game. Our D pinched way too much with zero support...what's Gardiner doing, doesn't touch the puck or the man...and Z isn't even NHL calibre he makes me want another Polak. ( Polak blew his 2 on 1 too. )FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

The 2nd goal was all on Gardiner. Terrible pinch. Pastrnak fooled zaitsev with the fakes shot then pass, cause thats what good players like Pastrnak do.
- PatC80

It wasn't a terrible pinch. It was a poor result. The puck was bouncing. The Leafs were pressing and a tired Boston group on the. They wanted to press the opportunity. I would be pretty sure the coaching staff would have agreed with that pinch.

We've become so conditioned to Gardiner doing stupid things that a bad result can reflect on him poorly. He played a good game. I don't blame him for that decision. Lots of very successful NHL teams give up 2 on 1s against, but their defense have a clue as to how to take away the pass.

Frankly, I don't think the Leafs are a team built to sit back - they don't have the defense for it, they don't hem, they don't have strong board presence, and they don't get away with the crap that established defenseman can, so they simply don't force turnovers that well. They win through offense, so they will have to take these gambles until they can round out their back end.

I find it funny that these playoffs in general have been awful so far. Buttman wanted to create rivalries based on this playoff seeding, but all he has done is create mediocrity.

That's a bad pinch (at least take the body if the puck goes by you )...those 2 D shouldn't have even been on the ice with Pastranak or Marchand...tired lol, Marchand looks like he could play the whole game most of the time.

I'm not even blaming the D...it would be nice if Line 1 showed up for more then 10 mins this series.

Based on what you just said its on Gardiner (pinch) and Zeitzev (poorly played 2 on 1)

Maybe some on Babs if they are coached to play that way ..whatever

they were pinching in the first 2 games, most of the time it worked. Boston made some adjustment...and it paid off

Don Cherry did a whole segment on this, how amazing it was to see the Leafs D pinch and put pressure on the B's wingers.

it did work yes, in that the Leafs had much more O-zone time. Boston just converted the 2 on 1s. doesnt always happen. Leafs just needed a lucky bounce here or there..and that just didnt happen

thats sports

I said this last night and stand by it: Gardiner pinches the most on the team, and it's one thing we always praise him for, he's one of the best at holding the puck in the O-zone. Every pinch is a good pinch until it's not. It just comes with the territory.

It's having a responsible forward cover and having a D partner that knows how to handle a 2-1 that we lack.

Nylander and Matthews were expected to dominate in this series. To me, that's where the Leafs are failing.

I didnt expect it so much from Nylander, but Matthews has not been good. I know Boston is focusing on taking them out of the game, but I never thought he'd be this of a non factor. I have to believe he is still injured.

Chara factor...and nobody is trying to get under his skin makes it way too easy for him to play 1/2 the game.
