3 picks in the first round looks good....just don't pull a Boston and only have 1/3 turn out to be decent.
Looking back right after their 3 picks in a row the next 3 were Barzal, Chabot and Connors - Aaron_85
Ya Boston definetly messed that one up. Only one they got right was Debrusk. Imagine if they went Connor/Barzal/Debrusk |

Ha... too bad they all have great goalies right now.
I kind of just want to see him traded so I can see an NHL team make 4 first round picks |

it could only help the cause to lure Tavares to sign here - jimbo83
If they somehow pull that off and trade for a top pair RHD I think they’re cup contenders. Not to mention if they add Kovulchuk.
Buchnevich Tavares Kovi
Kreider Zib Zucc
Spooner Hayes Chytil
Dahlin Hamilton
Skjei Shattenkirk
Smith Pionk
Andersson+2 1sts+Vesey or Nam for Hamilton |

with a lot of luck, and a lot of $$$, the Rangers could add Dahlin, Tavares and Kovalchuk this summer without giving up a thing.

I love Hank and everything he has done for the Rangers but can't say I would have been disappointed if he wanted to move on and we got another haul for him. Plus all that extra cap space. |

All ur giving up is Andersson really. The 2 1sts are 20+ and Vesey/Nam don’t have much value. If Tavares is signed we won’t be able to keep both Andersson and Chytil. |

Some good college candidates are in the NYR head coaching mix. Montgomery (U of Denver), Quinn (BU) and Sandelin (Minn Duluth). Interesting. - jimbo83
It looks like they will have to go the route of college or minor league candidates, with the NHL coaches who have already been fired or could be fired soon, not looking that much as an option. A.V. will likely end up in the end as the best of the NHL ones that are in the "fired" category, while possibilities to be fired would not suit the Rangers needs fully, &/or have their own deficiencies in either possibly Boucher, Julien, Yeo, Carlyle, & another or two. Nor would Darryl Sutter suit them under their current youth/re-tool plan, as was in part the reason for them firing A.V. in the first place.
I heard the other day that Sheldon O'Keefe of the AHL's Marlies, was now likely out of the picture. Jim Montgomery seems to be rated the highest of those college coaches mentioned. If he advances to an NHL position, he would become just the 4th coach to do so from a collegiate level since the U.S. Gold Medal win at Lake Placid in 1980, with Dave Hakstol of the Flyers being the previous one.
The two other prior to Hakstol were Bob Johnson going from Wisconsin Univ. to Calgary in 1982, and none other than the coach of that U.S. 1980 Gold Medal winning team, in the deceased, Herb Brooks, who went from the Univ. of Minnesota to the Rangers in 1981. I believe there may have been at least one or possibly two more coaches who made that same shift from college to the NHL prior to Herb doing so. |

When he's on his game he's the king of 2 and under. Hardly ever lets more than that in...from what I saw.
I'd like him to win a cup as he's worked really hard. Too bad it's loser teams who need a goalie.

Yup, and that is usually the issue, unless there is some injury or something, its the bad teams who need goalies. |

You actually should move one of Hayes or Zibanejad bacause of the cap and they are both young enough to get a good return. But you have no idea how that works, so we move on. |

I wouldn't refer to St. Louis as a "loser's team" here. They missed the playoffs by 1 point to the Avs, in key due to the play of their supposed #1 goalie in Jake Allen.
Allen in 59 games had only a (27-26 Overall W-L Record), with a 2.75 G.A.A., and a .906 Save%. That depicts him not making enough big saves, and giving up a good share of bad goals as well.
Nor would I call Philly a losing team. They have had poor goal tending in their first round by Elliott.
The Blues in blowing a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period to Chicago at home in the season's final week, with Allen allowing a bad goal in the final 10 seconds, alone in effect cost them from reaching the postseason.
Their backup in Carter Hutton played better than Allen all season long, which is why their coach, Mike Yeo's job may be in jeopardy, for his goalie deployment choice, especially down the stretch starting in March.
Hutton was (17-7), in 32 Games, with a 2.09 G.A.A., and a .931 Save%. |
