Could say the same about Zibanejad.

I was just saying what I thought Carlson would get on the open market, if he hits the open market.
- Pete V

I knew you were only suggesting that in general, Pete, in response to "aussie penguins" referral. I was only bringing up the issue of Girardi's dead cap space, plus Beleskey's cap if he's not on the Pro roster next season, due to all the anxiety by some as to simply sign Tavares if he's available, or even Erik Karlsson, or the like that others had been mentioning here, and on blogs since the season ended.

They have a Share of Matt Beleskey's. 3.85 million dollar. They have the 1.9 million spilt on the books now cause they called him for 1 game They could send him back down and free up 1 million dollars. Also the cap is gonig up next season. C'mon man! Think, research and write. Saver Baby!
- tomburton99

That's still $1M wasted down on their Hartford roster while undergoing a total organization re-tooling, in the same way that Tanner Glass's annual $1.5M was down there for an extended length of his contract term at times.
In addition, add to Girardi's amount for the ones here who want Smith &/or Staal bought out. That would nearly wipe out the NHL cap increase for them should both be bought out.

Wasted is a relative term with Beleskey because accepting that contract likely resulted in a larger return in that trade

I only used the word,"wasted" in Beleskey's case, Jan, since the money could be used down there better for some younger player to be developed.

Some good college candidates are in the NYR head coaching mix. Montgomery (U of Denver), Quinn (BU) and Sandelin (Minn Duluth). Interesting.

I think as long as a coach can show they win they will have a long career in the NHL. Most coaches have shelf lives with teams(Like PeteV says) very few who are able to stay with a team for more than 5-6 years now. Makes it easier for another team to pick up that coach thinking if they had success with another team, they might have success for a bit too.

I'm at mixed feelings for the King wanting to see everything through. He's better than he was this season so he's probably going to keep the team out of the basement all on his own.

I'd like to see him traded (Cause what fan doesn't like trades for entertainment?) but I doubt it happens. I think Philly calls after these playoffs

Philly might call, but I can't imagine any scenario a tri-state area team doing a deal for Hank and Hank accepting. I think if Hank wanted to bail, might be a west coast team

Pretty crazy to go right from college to a major market original six team like the Rangers. Maybe start in Florida

3 picks in the first round looks good....just don't pull a Boston and only have 1/3 turn out to be decent.

Looking back right after their 3 picks in a row the next 3 were Barzal, Chabot and Connors
