The proponent of this direction was president Glen Sather and GM Glen Sather but owner James Dolan had to sign off.

Bit of a Freudian slip there, Jan?
Hoepfully, those days are over!

Honestly, I loved every one of Dolan's comments. And, I would say that his comments about McD and AV are only "shots" if they are unwilling/unable to look at themselves with honesty. Mac WAS a great player for us. And he DID struggle to certain degrees with the mantle of leadership.

On the point of the new coach utilizing advanced stats:

I am okay with this being a point of certain importance, but (big surprise!) I have an opinion on that:

In reading that article that was posted yesterday about Hayes (Jimbo?), something became clear to me. The writer was obviously well versed in advanced stats and explained them well. But, all I could think was that all the "fancy math" concluded were the same things that those of us who watch Hayes with regularity know from the good old "eye test." Literally, every single conclusion. Call it what you want. If you understand hockey, you understand hockey. Get to the bottom line how ever you like.
All the debates back and forth are silly.

Ok, 21. Play nice! We're all on the same side here. Except maybe Burton! Hung jury on that one.

Sounds like Dolan is very confident of getting some good players for next season, or being told as much. I'm wondering how accurate his optimism is. I've always said I believe Tavares will be a Ranger, but that opinion was before the rebuild. I still think you guys are a good chance of getting him. I'm wondering what other players Dolan could Be talking about - Doughty & Karlsson surely would cost too much if you do manage Tavares & you need a top 6 C really if you don't get Tavares.

Going to be very interesting.

Duchene could probably be had. Who knows what he would cost though.

Just wait when he drops to the 8th overall pick and they pass him up. You might go full blown Burton.

- Pete V

Tkachuk actually starting to look not as great for me. I'd take him at 8, obviously. But not if they win the lottery.

I think the ideal building blocks are having a stud center and a stud defensemen as a starting point. If they can land Tavares, they have to do it, plain and simple. Then paying for the stud defensemen becomes a bit of a problem, because they have big money contracts tied up in players that aren't that -- Staal, Shattenkirk and Smith. To bring in that stud number 1 guy sooner (instead of growing him in the system), rather than later, they need to shed at least two of the above three contracts.

It's all about MONEY.. as fans we want a winning team, as an Owner he wants MONEY.
By making the playoffs the last 11 years or whatever it was Dolan has Killed it with the Rangers.
The Knicks games at the Garden are always sold out, people may not be going but 90-95% of the seats are sold, outside of funky accounting, trust me.. he is making money on them too

People need to separate their goals from an owners goals. Fans want wins, owners wants Wins, yes.. but Money first and foremost.

But the worry for Rangers fans is that Dolan has no Knicks games (as usual), and this year, no Rangers games being played at MSG after mid April in key, to earn that additional income. So, yes, he listened to Sather and Gorton as far as a re-tool being needed here hockey wise, while his Knicks team is lost in space, after also having fired yet another head coach.
As per Dolan's words quoted by both Brooks in the Post, and Jan here, you know that he wants management to bring in some high ticket value player to be a new & second identity with this team besides Hank. The worry is that he doesn't start disrupting the cap space already created, and youth movement made thus far as planned, in a stupid spending way just to do so to get that big name player here, who may not also be the right one to fit in their overall plan.
Hopefully, Dolan sticks more with his word in "DEVELOP" to re-tool this team properly, other than spending all possible for that one big name, who Rangers fans have known by history, have worked out to what's expected when coming here by a very small percentage, beginning with the name, Messier among those few.

Yes I hear you, but which team is looking to unload a legit #1? Duchene has baggage as well but in the right place he could go well I believe.

His numbers always had him in the mid 20's so technically it would be a #1, but agree he would have been a very good #2 if there was someone in the #1 spot

Stepan always put forth the effort. He just doesn't look like it because he has cinder blocks for feet.
