You know what I am sure of? I am sure that the Rangers are going to offer Tavares something like $12 million per over 7 years if he hits the open market. I am not sure whether he will take it, but the Rangers aren't going to sit that one out if he's available.

I was talking to some guys in there a few days ago. They see him being gone as a definite. It really does suck for them and there is no reason it should have gotten to this point.

Rangers fans are going to have to accept the fact that Hank only wants to play, and retire as a Ranger (at least through the end of his current contract). In addition, he wants no other location than New York to be his residence, and will likely never jump ship to play within a breathing distance away, be it in another of the 5 boroughs, or across the Hudson.

I was talking to some guys in there a few days ago. They see him being gone as a definite. It really does suck for them and there is no reason it should have gotten to this point.

I am not totally convinced yet that he bolts. There are still some real damn good pieces there to build around. But, of course, you have to have some level of confidence in the organization to actually not (frank) it up, which would seemingly be very hard for him to have.

That is all true. Barzal looks absolutely amazing and will be a nice consolation prize if JT walks. But right now if they brought in the right pieces and retained JT they could contend for a cup. JT and Barzal down the middle is insane.

I don't know what their cap situation looks like and how many bad contracts they have, but a couple of fans in that blog indicated that even if they retain JT it will be hard to bring in the right pieces. I don't know if that is a long or short term issue.

Jan, in regards to Tavares, Isles writer Andrew Gross of "Newsday" said a few days ago that Tavares would cost the Isles $10.5M annually, and that he would not give them a hometown discount. He also added that if reaching free agency, Tavares would not likely sign with either the Rangers, Toronto or Montreal, but instead possibly with either Vegas, St. Louis, San Jose, Detroit or Vancouver (of all places for the latter).
Vegas, St. Louis, or San Jose would be very interested in signing him. In addition, I can understand why not with the Rangers, (to not upset Isles management & their fans), and not with Montreal or Toronto, (the hockey media 24/7/365 capital of the world, despite him born and bred up there). Vancouver would be interested in J.T. to replace in part the two Sedin brothers who just retired, while Detroit needs a new superstar spark there to make "Hockey town" become "Hockey town" once again.
But first, what do you feel would be his value on the open market if the Isles don't do a "sign and trade him" move? And second, where do you feel his on and off ice interests suit him to be playing at this point in his career in signing long term anywhere? Thank you.

It's all about MONEY.. as fans we want a winning team, as an Owner he wants MONEY.
By making the playoffs the last 11 years or whatever it was Dolan has Killed it with the Rangers.
The Knicks games at the Garden are always sold out, people may not be going but 90-95% of the seats are sold, outside of funky accounting, trust me.. he is making money on them too

People need to separate their goals from an owners goals. Fans want wins, owners wants Wins, yes.. but Money first and foremost.
