Eventually, we'll have a top 4 of:

Provy/Ghost
Sanheim/Myers

MacD wouldn't be as bad in a 5/6 role playing 15min a night with a decent partner.

- VladDrag

Yeah, I'm not familiar with their prospects so I dunno about Myers or Morrin. I keep seeing Hagg's name thrown around here though, so I was just throwing together an armchair GM based on FA.

This team is product of their coach. Uninspired.

For whatever reason, this team is passive against everyone. And my thoughts is that Hakstol has castrated this team. And he needs to go. He's in over his head. You can just see him at the bench with a "deer-in-headlights" look in his eyes.

This is on Hextall for bringing in a college coach to coach in the NHL. Let alone a college coach who never won anything.

Yes, the future is bright. Many of these contracts are ending and many of the prospects are ready. But Hextall needs to decide:

1. Does he finally give in and let these kids play???
2. Does he finally realize that he's not going to win a Cup with Hakstol?
3. Does he finally realize that he needs to clean house and get rid of this putrid coaching staff? Lappy and Gord Murphy included. Gord Murphy??? You couldn't find a better defensive coach than Gord Murphy? He was a marginal defenseman at best! Yet you think he's going to teach the best fundamentals to a bunch of young stud defensemen???

...and don't even get me started about benching your top hitting defenseman because he "doesn't play well with Gudas". HAVE YOU SEEN MANNING????

It's time to clean house...the core is there or coming.

And the ONLY thing that saved Hackstol's job this year...was career seasons from Giroux, Couterier and Voracek. Because if these guys had 50-70 point seasons again, the Flyers would have been under .500.

I wouldn't count out Myers. They talked this year about how he was ahead of Sanheim was at this time in development. Also a right handed shot.
- J35Bacher

Yeah, forgot about him. Still means that the defense can/will be improved soon from the inside.

What did Mike Sullivan win before he took over the Pens?

I am not saying the coach hasn't made some questionable decisions but I think more lays at Hextalls feet this off season. You can see the wholes. Now you have to plug them. Either with your own guys or you need to find the right ones.

No problem. Myers is a tall (6'5") puck moving D-man, with plus skating. Doing well in the AHL right now. He'll be in the NHL eventually, hopefully he can carve out a decent role.

Morin is a 6'7" modern age Defensive d-man. Good first pass and skaing for a man of his size. Very physical. Same mold of player as Oleksiak.

Meyers has a ton of upside. Morin is a stay-at-home BEAST of a defenseman. 6' 7" I believe?

Bury Neuvy after the season, sign Antti Raanta for 2-3 years until Hart is ready. Gudas, Manning need to be gone, try and trade Amac for whatever you can get.

If the Flyers put up another lackluster performance, I’d have to think the odds of Hakstol remaining are less than half. Their last two playoff trips have been embarrassing and the team has been prone to lengthy periods of inconsistent play throughout his tenure. I think it may be time to move on.

^^this is what I threw together with a cap hit of 81m. Still 3.67m left to look for a tendy. FA is kinda blah this year, but there is decent depth options available IMO.

Sullivan was the assistant coach on 4 NHL teams and a 2006 USA Olympic team before he became coach of the WB Pens and then was named head coach of the Pens after they fired Bylsma...

...he did have SOME experience.

great rant. I think Hak gets another shot at this....should the Flyers falter next year then both him and Hextall need to be shown the door.

I don't think clamoring for the kids is the answer.

The kids, up to an including Shayne Gostisbehere, haven't been great in this series. Patrick has created some chances, but I don't think it's been enough.

This has been good experience for them, but let's not pretend they've been great in this series.

They didn't sustain more than 20 seconds of zone time prior to that either, though. They were either hemmed in their own zone or failing to get any type of quality look at net. To me, if you can only muster 1:30 of 60:00 of sustained zone time, that shows a serious disparity of skill. I'm sure the flyers were deflated which also contributed to that, as well, however.

I also think that it is a matchup problem, too. But, to me, what causes the matchup problem is lack of skill in the flyers lineup vs the Pens. The Pens forwards are better skaters and more creative than the Flyers. They are also better in their own zone, and have a decent defensive system. I also think it looks better because of the lack of ability on our end.

- VladDrag

I don't think they lack so much skill that they can't carry the puck into the offensive zone. The pens are clogging it up, especially once they have a lead, and the Flyers just dump it in and get beat to the puck. I know skill plays a part in that, but I don't think it is so bad that they wouldn't be able to do that. I think an adjustment could've been made there

Nice try, but there is no way they are going to spend 8 million on Carlsson when they have to extend Provorov after next season. They need to move vets on D, not add them. I would be very interested, depending on cost and term, in going after Riley Nash to be the 3C though.

The kids have to learn and this is to be expected. It's the VETS that I'm more concerned about.

So they're both huge defenseman. Going the TBL route of getting every giant you can? What about Hagg? What's every so high on him for?

And i think Provorov will be better then Carlsson.

There is not much in FA i want unless they would go big and try for Tavares. I wouldn't be totally against a vet guy like Antione Roussell depending on price and term. Can kill penalties and bring a physical presence if you move on from Simmonds.

They've lost 3 games in this series by a combined score of 17 - 1.

Any adjustment at all would be better than what is going on right now.

Yup, and in all honesty, I think Patrick, the youngest player on the team, has been their best player in this series.
