i recently had marscapone stuffed french toast dusted in fruity pebbles. i thought it would be incredible, but it didn't really work, much to my chagrin.

It's also natural for fans to undervalue their players and act emotionally when things aren't going well and overreacting. I think you're drastically underrating his value.
- MJL

I'm no where near emotional when it comes to the value of players, performing well or otherwise.

If you recall from my earlier post, I'm in the "keep Wayne" camp.

I don't know about that. I can see Lindblom scoring close to 20 goals and playing well on the forecheck and away from the puck. He's a talented player with a nose for the net.
- MJL

He very well could, but I just am getting the sense he’s just not a guy who can put the puck in the net at the NHL level. He doesn’t have the prospect pedigree as a goal scorer or anything, and he has that “oh so close!” vibe happening that reminds me of good, hard skating Euro guys who couldn’t pot poop (Thoreson, Raffl).

I recently pushed at how much 3C Needs to be upgraded on here. WHAT IF we flip it?

there are far more wingers avail this year than Centerman....why not grab a guy like Nash, move Giroux back to center, and make a move mid season if Simmonds doesn’t bounce back?

That way you get Giroux, Patrick, Couts down the middle.

If the hockey gods shine G and P have a battle over 1C AND Simmonds bounces back

‘neck-1C-‘check
Simmer -2C-Nash
Blom- Couts-Raffl
X-Y-Z

Maybe someone in the pipeline comes in and surprises

Whether you want to keep him or trade him is irrelevant to what his value is. GM's that want to trade for him still see him as one of the premier net front forwards and a 25-30 goal scorer in the league. GM's who think he is done aren't interested in trading him. Part of what sets a players value is also what his team is willing to trade him for. Hextall is not going to give him away.

What other GM's are going to do is try and prey on the weak and take advantage of a situation. Try to low ball and steal a player cheaply. Hextall is not that stupid.
- MJL

What situation is that?

I don't think that is the book on Lindblom at all.

A very good player who had a down year and the Flyers facing a decision on re-signing him.

You're off point.

All I'm saying is that Wayne's value won't be as high now as it would be if he comes back next year and has a typical Simmonds-like start to the season. Which is why I think it would be more prudent to keep him and hope he bounces back.

Now I agree, if someone really wants him now despite his poor performance in the PO's and his less than desirable defensive play, than I'm all in moving him.

No, I'm not off point, I'm dead on. You made the following statements.

"They'd have to sell very low to move/trade him and that's never a good idea"

"I don't think his value would be very high at this point in time"

I think you're wrong about that.

That's what makes or breaks a GM, being able to distinguish between a player having a down year only or one who is on the downside of his career.

Pumping good cap money into a declining asset is the quickest way to the lottery.

So you’re just throwing a scouting report at me against the games we’ve all seen him play (and get scratched for)?

Seems laaaaaazy.

I agree the guy can skate and do all the things people encompass when they lay in the treasured “200 foot player” tag on someone.

But he hasn’t showed he can score. It reminds me of the dudes I mentioned.

He was a 5th round pick....

All the games he has played? All 28 of them at the NHL level in his first year in NA pro hockey. His M.O. has been the same. The points were the last to come at every level. Same thing in the AHL. The Flyers expect him to be a decent scorer at the NHL level.

If anyone is making a lazy analysis here, it's not me. I know a player deserves more than less of half of an NHL season at 21 years old to show what he has the potential to become.

Jaime Benn was a 5th round pick.

You aren't wrong. He looks like he can stick in the NHL. But stick in the NHL and be a reliable points producer are two very different things. Right now I'm combfortable with him as a 3rd line LW. Would definitely like to see them address their LW depth. After G it's a steep drop off.

The Flyers will have, provided they let UFAs Filpulla, Read and Manning walk, about $18M in cap space for this coming season. I didn't realize the number was that high. I knew they had room to add a decent UFA forward coming into this season, but $18M is a lot of incentive to go get somebody and for somebody to want to come to Philly.

He's not right. He is pigeon holing Lindblom as a 21 year rookie with less than half a season in the NHL. He was in the AHL and reports are that he was becoming a dominant player down there.

That's not including any cap increase. They could easily make it more. It's not about available cap space. It's about whether Hextall is ready to do that.

No, I'm figuring it goes to what's been reported $81M. I've got them at just over $63M with 7 D, 2 G and 12 forwards which is where the money would go for the 13th.
