Trade Simmonds because his contract is coming up for some prospects/picks.
Get in on the Tavares sweepstakes. They have PLENTY of cap space. This will also give the Flyers that 1-2 punch (1-2-3 punch if you move Patrick to the 1st or 3rd line center position) that will match up with any team in the league down the middle.
Imagine Couterier, Tavares, Patrick and Rubstov down the middle? - Hckygoalie31
I wouldn't be against Tavares. I brought him up the other day. Tavares, Patrick and Couturier going down the middle. Also Tavares' age fits right into the Flyers window. |

I don't agree with this mentality. You shouldn't automatically trade a guy simply because he's an upcoming FA. |

I'd trade Gudas for, really, whatever they can. Weise should be waived. Manning should be be resigned. Filppula will be gone. Lehtera should be the 13F.
The goalies is a whole different story. I'm okay with Elliott as the backup, but Neuvirth has to go and we need at least a Ryan Miller type. - jmatchett383
So I understand this correct, Manning should be resigned? |

I think the only thing that really bothers me is the lack of "will vs. skill" that we've seen.
The Pens are better. All of us knew that going in; even I knew that.
I thought that the Flyers could shorten their bench a bit, take advantage of some of the Pens' weaknesses on defense, and score goals.
But that was going to require them to not take penalties, get their fair share of key saves, and most importantly, win 50/50 battles. Do the hard things, like go to the net and stay there. Manage the puck and play with purpose. Be focused on the singular goal of winning shifts, then periods, then hockey games.
All that stuff sounds like cliches. I get it. There's no "Leadership Bucket" that everybody could take a sip from.
But at the same time, 10-1 at home...that's not a good look. It's just not.
I sometimes wonder if these guys realize, truly realize, that you only get so many chances. They didn't make the playoffs last year. Washington busted them up the year before. Didn't make it the year before that.
At some point, you have to recognize that you aren't going to always be in this league and that at some point, you have to give everything you have to beat a team that's better than you.
I remember when Florida beat the Flyers in 1996, made it to the finals, where Colorado beat them. That's what I am talking about.
Florida wasn't better than the Flyers that year, or any other team they played before Colorado.
They just outwilled them.
I don't count the 2010 team in that because with the exception of the third defense pairing and goaltending, that team underachieved all season. It certainly had the talent to make the final, like they did.
Just once, I'd like the Flyers to do something they aren't expected to do, beat a team that is better than them in all the metrics. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen.
At the very least, 7-0 on the road, then combined 10-1 at home...they have to find ways to do better than that. - AllInForFlyers
Flyers teams in the past have greatly overachieved, but it's been a while. The 79-80 team, coming off a 5 game quarterfinal trouncing by the Rags, was not expected to come close to contending. All they did was run off a 35 game unbeaten streak and get within 2 wins of Stanley Cup ((frank) YOU LEON STICKLE!!)
The 84-85 team, coming off an 87 point season and a 1st round sweep by the Caps the previous year wasn't expected to do squat that year. Especially when you factor in a rookie coach, and the loss of Clarke, Barber and Sittler. All that team did was win the President's trophy and go to the finals.
Coming off 5 straight years of missing the playoffs, and a horrible start to the lockout 95 season, that clue wasn't expected to do anything. Instead a trade with the Habs turned the team around and they make it to the conference final.
Finally, after the year from hell, no one saw this team as anything more than a .500 team at best. They ended up reaching the conference finals. And, even as recently as the 15-16 season, after getting off to a horrible start, no one saw that team playing lights out down the stretch and making the playoffs.
It hasn't always been doom and gloom.

I've never been really bored watching them though. I feel I am bored a lot of the time watching them under the Hakstol tenure.
Maybe its a millenial thing haha.

No. You trade him for picks/prospects because of his age and that he's due for a very large increase and he's going to be looking for multiple years. Probably in the 4-6 year range. |

No, I hear you, they've become team vanilla, especially when Simmonds isn't playing physical and Gudas has been neutered. They are softer than melted butter.

That 95 team might've gotten smoked in the final, but they sure as hell should've gotten the chance to find out

Still not as bad as goal scored when the play was so far offside, the Dman had basically slowed up.

One player who I think is actually having a good series on the Flyers? Ivan Provorov. With him on the ice at 5v5, the Flyers have controlled 59.79% of the Expected Goals; with him on the bench, 35.77%. And that's in spite of averaging over 24 minutes a game. He's a bright spot.

They have to find a way to fix this -- I don't know what the guys on the farm look like, as far as their willingness to compete.
I know you aren't talking about, and I'm not talking about, dirty or cheap players like Rinaldo.
They need a few more guys who care more about losing than they do about winning. That's just my opinion |

As in he is sitting for Manning to stay in?
I want to laugh but my god. Honestly if thats what happens and its Fil up in the 1C spot, I cant rationally see the defense of Hakstol. |
