If players are tuning out their coach when they're in the middle of a playoff battle, it's time to get new players.
- Hunkulese

Yup. This was never a coaching thing it's a player thing. It's time they start being held accountable instead of getting a new coach every two years. If Tre isn't willing to do that then find somebody who will.

Wrong! You don’t think GG tried to hold them accountable? It’s when a coach can’t anymore. That’s when unfortunately you have to make the change. To trade players when a coach has lost the room is just dumb. Anyway if you think by finding a GM that will hold a coach accountable everytime players don’t play...

I'm not saying GG didn't. But this team has tuned out two coaches in four years, one of which was right in the middle of a playoff race. That should tell Tre that there is something going on in that locker room, and he needs to find out what that is and fix it, or else either he loses his job or we'll be here talking about what new coach to hire again two tears from now.

I don't know if Tre necessarily wanted to fire Gully. His higher ups might not have given him a choice. But if that is the case, then it means there's a problem up there, too.

Tre still has time to fix whatever the Hell is going on with the team, too. But a coaching change doesn't solve the problem.

So what do you think is wrong in the dressing room that could’ve been handled by any coach? It happens all the time. Fair? Maybe not. Just a fact!

I don't think he ever lost the room. It was a rash decisions made by a GM who knows he's on a short leash.
If we were to look at management, coaching staff, and players over the last two years, the coaching staff by did a better job of the three.

If he was fired because he lost the room two years after Hartley was fired because he lost the room, that's a major problem with the players in that room.

Coaching is a results based occupation. For what ever reason Gully didn't get the results. You can argue all you want about good metrics, Win loss trumps that and it's not even close.
Those saying there's a problem in the dressing room are just speculating, we don't know what's going on and until BT starts trading players we'lol never know for sure.
As I said yesterday, management built what they thought was a competitive roster, not firing G admits they were wrong.

Imo, this season went south when G left Brouwer on to take the face off short handed, in overtime, against Buffalo. Like it or not it was a bad decision and things started sliding from there.

imagine getting fired by the guy who traded away all of his picks yet managed to still give you one of the worst bottom 6 forward groups in the league to work with

Why are people so adamant for Sutter? From what I remember, he played with an elite filled LA team who struggled to score and put up mediocre possession numbers.

they had great possession numbers during most of his tenure there. They were elite defensively, but the issue was that the system limited the team's offensive ability.

There's a reason why no one wanted to play them in the playoffs. That being said, I'm not so sure guys like Gaudreau, Hamilton and Brodie are built to play in that system. I could see guys like Monahan, Hamonic, Tkachuk thriving.

The last thing the flames need is a defence first style of hockey after the year they had. They need to shoot the lights out to get confidence back.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm not impressed with any of the coaches available... Peters is a lateral move, AV sits young players, Sutter plays D first, Tippett is overrated in every way.

My gut is going with Peters because the flames were fine in every category last year except shooting and composure. That could've just been a player personnel deal which will get sorted out this offseason

I agree with you

I like Sutter, but not for this roster. Agree that Peters is the best out of that bunch, but it does feel like a lateral move.

His possession numbers were actually around the top of the league.

He also coached a team with two elite players and a pile of scrubs to within a goal of the Cup.

This team needs more than a new coach. They need a motivational speech from Squilliam and need to stop doing coke all summer (cough monahan)
- Squilliam-

It's 100% out of your system after three days, so what's the big deal!

Also, if you had a salary of over 1,000,000/year, you'd do a lot of coke too. It's fun!

Hearing the Flames are looking at a bold move involving bringing Lundqvist in from the Rags. I'd put that at a KFC1 for now but could be a KFC3 by early this afternoon.

I'm meeting with a secondary source to discuss this rumor over a couple of double downs.

Same. I feel like a lateral move would be good seeing as how the season seemed to be more unfortunate bounces/injury timing moreso than structural issues.

That was in 2004 when the league was all about hard-hitting grind-it-out style hockey. This league is about speed and skill which is why we need a coach suitable for that. IMO that would be Peters out of the bunch.
