I’ve often wondered how fewer divorces there would be if dudes completely stopped marrying their first root. I think the drop in number would be quite startling.

You know exactly what they think. And FWIW, almost every devout marriage that I’m personally familiar with, is borderline loveless and mostly miserable. There is a reason for that, and I’m almost certain that it’s the exact same one that Jero expounded upon.
