This is what happens when you sissify a league. You want fighting gone, put a STUPID instigator rule in, don't come crying when cheap shots too the head happen. Players on the team can't go after dirty players because the league is SISSIFIED

Comparing those two hits is absolutely asinine. The Dave Brown one was a full 3 seconds after the whistle, and was a clearly targeted hit. This one he's just trying to clear him out and accidentally got his stick up - calling it "VERY targeted" is absolutely comical.

Yes, it absolutely should have been a penalty. I'd have been fine with it being a major. He should get suspended; I'd give him 2 games. But there's no way that was categorically worse than what Kadri did.

Why don’t we all shut up and realize that this is the new NHL... no heavyweights, no fear, $5000 fines and a game here and there. Helmets, shields and transformer equipment means you don’t feel you can get hurt so probably won’t hurt someone else.
If Thorburn was dressed Winnik and Foligno would not be flying around and if Minny had an enforcer dressed every Jet thinks of every hit etc....even Buff would have to reign it in. We will see 2-4 of these incidents a week through the playoffs and we will all be wondering why? REALLY??????

Refs need to start being handed out fines when missing obvious calls, especially the ones that are endangering players safety. Maybe than will Refs smarten the (frank) up and actually call a game correctly.

I’m thinking, if Doughty got 1 game for what he did, and Kadri got 3, this cheap shot cross check to the face with full extension, should be 4. That said, he doesn’t have history of this and Kadri does, realistically I think he should 2.

Sadly, this is correct.

Hockey is the only franking sport in the entire franking world where a referee sees an infraction, then quickly asks the following:

- what is the score?
- how much time is left in the game?
- how many penalties have I already called on Team A?
- how many penalties have I already called on Team B?
- how good a player is the transgressor?
- how good a player is the victim?
- how late in the season/post-season is this game being played?

It's a complex mathematical formula - more complex than the Buzztron 2000 - which ultimately determines if it is a penalty or not.

Cross-check to the face in front of the net? Sorry, it's already a powerplay in a playoff game - no penalty.

Yes I know he’s a Blue, meant Gavin a tough guy dressed! Could of worded it better. Have seasons for Jets and miss Thorbs a lot. Got to meet him socially a couple of times at different events and he was class act.

That's soft compared to Buffs attempt to decapitate the Rags player a year or 2 ago.

Niskanen on Sid last season round 2 was also worse - but that apparently was a hockey play.

DOPS is so inconsistent, I don't even know why they look at the player's history. Taking history into account, Marchand probably deserves to be suspended or fined every game. I think they should look at the play, and decide if it's worthy of punishment. Once a player gets disciplined a certain number of times, he gets extra punishment. For example, if a player is disciplined 5 times, he is suspended for 2-20 games (5 fines equals an automatic 2 game suspension; 5 suspensions equals 20 games).
