The NHL has set the precedent with how they handle repeat offenders like Marchand.
They clearly don't give a (frank) less about players safety.
I guess we need to being back goons to face punch people. - TRDevil
Only enough to reduce the damage of lawsuits. Much like the NFL. Eliminate enforcers, diminish ability to let guys police themselves, incompetent refs, a wildly imcmompentant DoPS and now the rats run the league. |

Has anybody brought up Marchand yet? If not, then take a minute to consider Marchand’s role in all of this. |

Well it depends if you consider an accident dirty. Reckless sure, dirty implies he meant to crosscheck him in the neck, which isn't the case. Dirty is spearing a guy in the nuts. - mdw7413

It's a bit out of control. They need to set an example and suspend him for 25 or 30 games total. Everyone keeps amping up the dirtiness because no one else is getting in trouble for it. How on earth the refs missed that is just mindblowing, that is a series changing missed call. |

"The refs looked at it and they decided not to call it because we were already on the power play," Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau said.
Sadly, this is correct.
Hockey is the only franking sport in the entire franking world where a referee sees an infraction, then quickly asks the following:
- what is the score?
- how much time is left in the game?
- how many penalties have I already called on Team A?
- how many penalties have I already called on Team B?
- how good a player is the transgressor?
- how good a player is the victim?
- how late in the season/post-season is this game being played?
It's a complex mathematical formula - more complex than the Buzztron 2000 - which ultimately determines if it is a penalty or not.
Cross-check to the face in front of the net? Sorry, it's already a powerplay in a playoff game - no penalty.
It's a franking joke. - Atomic Wedgie

Exactly.
Total hockey play until he inadvertently struck Eric in the ear with a check which was ment for his arm.
Unlucky play. - shoreorrpark
I have to say that what I thought when I looked at the video...
was aiming for the shoulder...missed...happened fast and mostly I do not care for either team... |

I could see him getting 2 games, no history of this type of play.
I wouldn't go as far as to say Kadri's hit was waaaaaaaaay more dangerous. It was bad, but Wingels didn't miss any time. We'll see what happens with Staal.
Both were potential career enders IMO

Staal didn't even miss a shift. If it was such a vicious hit shouldn't have Staal gone to the quiet room for concussion protocol? No he kept playing and he led all forwards in ice time. The hit was meant as a shot to the arm to box him out of the front of the net while killing a penalty. It was a jab. If it was meant to injure it would have been a lot harder and would have done a lot more damage. Anybody who thinks Morrissey is a dirty player doesn't watch the Jets enough.

Not a dirty play at all.
I have seen guys being sucker punched, getting their fingers torn off and the players responsible for those plays have never been suspended.
Nothing to see here move on....... |

Gudas should never wear a Flyers sweater again. Not just because of this, but because he is physically done.
That cross check should be a minimum of 15 regular season games and all remaining playoff games. |

(frank) it, Knights for the Cup. Why not? |

I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often, when the defender is half looking at the play and checking the player in the slot area/net area.
Practically every shift a defender is cross checking a forward....ultimately, his stick got a little high and should face a punishment.
Comparing this to Dave Brown ...crazy. |

Couldn't agree more. Playoff hockey especially. Absolutely have loved the sport of hockey since my youth and my biggest pet peeve with the sport is the different set of rules from regular season to post season. Hell from game to game sometimes. Too much discretion given to officials who like to control the game according to their own agendas. Objective rules are made to be subjective and the league allows it. Even though all they talk about is player safety. |
