It is though, instead of letting it run its course, you want to tamper with it to try and make it better, faster. Getting rid of the best players for ifs and maybes is a huge gamble, kind of like getting rid of a poopload of ifs and maybes for those guys in the first place. Because if those ifs and maybes don't pan out, you're now years behind where you were, and yes, it can always get worse. If you would've been good in, say 3 years by playing the waiting game, but now all your gambles fell through and it's already 3 years later, you'd have to wait another 3 years, at least, for the next group to start to show results.
- Wetbandit1

No, not at all, where are you getting that from?

What exactly are we letting run it's course? Is O'Reilly suddenly becoming an impact player at 30?? trade him now

So, is your “best” player measured by points alone.
Oh, I know points are valued, don’t for a minute believe I don’t know that...but there are others important aspects to be sure...team success is key, not individual points.

Lol, years behind what? Are we going to never win a game because Ryan O'Reilly is gone?

What makes you think it would? It hasn't yet. People grumble to grumble, but the idiots keep renewing their season tickets.

That is literally the only thing that will get their attention.

- Wetbandit1

They will test it next year.
Let’s see.

So you subscribe to the everybody do your thing strategy?
You must.
You subtract the bad apples, as pretty as they are..and move forward with a team that plays it’s game, save none.
Keeping a bad apple puts the new ones at risk.

Let’s say you have an employee who just does WtF he wants...you then hire a new kid and want him to follow the work processes that have been developed because they are proven to be successful.
Would you keep the malcontent...and even use him to train you new golden boy...or maybe get rid of him and get a players who follows the process and can’t support the new golden boy.

Ohh, btw, Las Vegas Knights say hello...everyone buying into the system works.
What more evidence do you need?

- IonSabres

Prove it, beyond a hack reporter saying something because there's nothing else to say. And then I'll listen.

Vegas? Marc-Andre Fleury says hi. All you need in the playoffs is a hot goalie. Nashville was going to the Cup final last year regardless of how the rest of the team played(within reason, obviously), because Rinne was unbeatable.

I thought you'd be better at math. Instead of being good in 3 years you'll be good in 6. Really not that difficult to grasp.

This board is whacked tbh as apparently given the comments, most are ok with players doing what they want....or, you don’t believe what reporters who watch games, and practices see and report.

Here’s the conundrum I see...
-Sabres Coach and GM constantly refer to certain players who don’t play the system as a major problem.
-GM goes out of his way to cite it as a major issue in his end of season presser.
-During the season, both the Coach and the Players have refered to it as a major issue; many, many times.
-Several times this season, a couple of posters mentioned what I think many of us have been wondering...who are these players who refuse to play the system...name names!
-Finally, we have a name pop up from Reporters...
-Golden Boy is named

Holy poop, it can’t be true...he pots 40 points a year and plays 29 min a night ... Past two coaches suck.

Guys, really?

Hey, let’s just let everyone play their own system..or, what they want.
If so, let’s bring back Teddy!!!
Opps, forgot, Teddy doesn’t have a system.

Lol, you guys are funny, peretty, pretty funny.

Can somebody explain why Risto is being rumored to go?

- IonSabres

After all that, it still makes no sense to trade Risto.

I'm talking about Risto.

You act like they're interchangeable, they're not, in the slightest. We actually, likely, have ROR's replacement already on the team and then some. We have nothing on defense.

I've been saying all along to get rid of ROR for a good, not the first 1st and mediocre prospect thrown at you, deal. A deal that actually makes sense. So a good D-man is an absolute must.

We will get a winger for Eichel if they decide to move ROR, in hopes of getting the 1st pick and drafting Dahlin, you add him to Risto not trade Risto. The object is to make the Defense better then it was. Trading Risto does not make the team better.

How does this work? Are you assuming Mittelstadt now is a bust too? PLus all the assets from the O'Reilly trade are automatically garbage?

Are you seriously telling me we are setting ourselves back 3 years because we *might possibly* draft a bust as part of a package for O'Reilly, who's probably our 3rd line center in 2 years.

Ok then

Are you saying that bylsma and phil are good coaches with a good system?

Neither coach has proven their worth in my opinion

would an NHL team risk pressuring them into doing this if they thought Svechnikov was actually at risk of doing serious damage to himself?
- Sabresfan-365

I think they’d say something to his agent before his OHL team,
but who knows?

I’d guess they probably wouldn’t

If say, in the middle of next year Dahlin, Guhle, Nelson and McCabe all step up big time, maybe Risto becomes redundant or at the very least able to be moved without putting a/another crater in your D-corps.

I'm not the one you need to point that out to, imagine that D lineup. The line to jump off the peace bridge would be half a state long.

If you don't like the direction the team is going in and want to force change, but keep giving them your money? Yes.

If you really don't care and just like going to games? No.

But we've been over all this before.

You can get tickets dirt cheap on the open market while they're bad. So you might have to wait a year or two once they're good to get your tickets back. Big deal. If you can afford season tickets you can afford to pay a little more for games, especially with all the money you saved by not buying them for a few years.
