What I see is a player in Couturier, expecting a player to be under control instead of turning and basically throwing a hip check into his knees and turning his back to Couturier. Couturier didn't side step him because it wasn't a game situation where he would be expecting contact. He's just working up a sweat there.
- MJL

Both guys need to be more aware of their surroundings in that situation but the fact that Gudas is moving like that in the first place is what really pisses me off about it.

Couturier has no obligation to be aware of his surroundings? Everything was in front of him. Yes Gudas was to the side but he should have been in his peripheral
- Just5

It's a practice drill, Couturier is not expecting Gudas to come at him there and make contact with a hip check to his knees.

Well Hak, unless Myers is in the opening lineup, get used to having no RH Dmen next year. Gudas is gone, and good (frank)ing riddance.

I think this spells the end of Gudas as a Flyer and maybe even in this league.

Exactly. You know they're running simultaneous drills on your side, and it's just a (frank)ing practice. BE AWARE!!!

JFC, I'm just torn between seething anger and crushing despair right now.

Blaming it entirely on Gudas just seems like a convenient way to make an excuse for a player while scapegoating another. A skater has an obligation to be aware of the area he’s skating to no matter the drill

I don't see it that way..

I see Gudas looked over his shoulder and took a stride while Coots was accelerating..
If someone needs to be blamed then I think both are accountable.

I just don't think anyone needs to be blamed in this case.

Yeah same I actually believed they had a legit chance to push this to 6 or 7 games, it really sucks. Not to mention Coots was having a career year and for it to end because of a stupid collision in practice that could have easily been avoided makes it worse. Who knows, let's hope Simmonds was right when he said Coots will be fine but I highly doubt it at this point.

If Coots is out, how can Hak not move G back to center. I mean, come on, he's really gonna make Filppula the 2C and play him 20 minutes or so against Crosby or Malkin.

Then again, WGAF, if Coots is out, they are done anyway.

I hate everything right now.

- BiggE

been that way all year...when patrick was out Weal played center lol

Of course the refs don't call the trip by Gudas. (frank)ing joke this league is.

Cout got a double minor for embellishment and unsportsmanlike (stick throw... also got 3 points for the field goal).

I'd rather have Weal as the 2nd line center or TK anyone but Filppula. Especially matching up against Malkin. Filppula has no speed at all he's gonna get burned so bad it's not even funny.

That's BS. It's about the environment. Couturier is pro hockey player perfectly capable of avoiding a player, especially at the slow practice speed both players were skating at. Not even remotely close to game speed. The reason why Couturier doesn't is because he is expecting Gudas in practice not to turn there and throw a hip check into him. I'm calling Gudas out for one simple reason, he was careless there. In my opinion Couturier was not.

We disagree then. In my view, Gudas was reckless and careless there.

It looked like Gudas was just reaching for an errant puck....it’s a bad break...it’s a practice, with guys moving quickly....it’s not like it’s intentional....(frank) this poop happens a lot...mostly there’s no repercussions or injuries, hopefully that’s still the case....I’m no fan of Gudas’s play of late, but I hardly think this is nothing more then a bad break.

I'm hoping of the leg wasn't planted that it would be more of a charlie horse than anything to do with the knees or ligaments and it isn't that bad.

That's my hope anyway.....

If Couts is out this is the only way I could even remotely see them being competitive against this Pens team :

Lindblom-Giroux-Voracek
TK-Patrick-Simmonds
Raffl-Filppula-Weal
Laughton-Lehtera-Read

Also you have to have Giroux take over Couturier's pk minutes as well. Even with this they still probably don't stand a chance 😢

I can NOT (frank)ing believe what I just saw in that video.

We cant have nice things. But I now know what I WISH I had, and that is for this team to be able to play a series without Couturier suffering some freak accident. And from the looks of that, he is pretty much done for the series.

Neither Weal or Konecny would fair well at all matched up against Malkin. Filppula's offensive game has completely disappeared but he is still decent defensively and he's not slow.

Knowing the Flyers luck Coots just tore his ACL and won't even be back for the start of next season

I know he's slower than Malkin so what does it matter
