Man....people seem to think there's no possible way he'll stick with Toronto because his payday will be too big and the Leafs have too many players to sign to big money.
Have people forgotten creative contracts - and that Lou is the master of them?
All they need to figure out is what's being offered. Is it 7 for 7? Lets just say thats the number...we could 49 over 8 years to everybody's 7. His cap hit would be 6.13 - reasonable!
Further, they could structure it front ended so that the first 3 years are the biggest - say 12, 12, 8, 4, 4, 4, 3, 2 - this is follows the CBA guidelines, and allows him to be very tradable in his decline years!
And that's IF other teams are offering 7 years, 7 million.....maybe teams are offering him less term....he IS 28 after all!

if the top year is 12, the lowest has to be 6 IRCC.

They’ve changed the rules since then. And Lou wasn’t the one that started those contracts. He signed Kovy’s but it was built and structured by Kovy’s agent. The gms are not the ones getting through these loopholes. It’s the dirty agents that are trying to get every single penny they can.

You eat 1 mill a year I am sure the Isles would take him at 1.5 mill a year for 2 years

Gut feeling is Tavares isn't going back to the Isles... if he isn't, it isn't the worst scenario.

Didn't JVR nix a summer trade for Travis Hamonic? If that's the case I doubt he signs his UFA to then be traded to the Isles....
I don't recall any UFA going along with a sign & trade for that matter?

I think JVR and Bozak sign somewhere together like Grabo and Kulemin did.

FLA has the cap room to do it and will be a force to recon with.

i love JT, but i agree with you. his offensive game is good but he defensive side has never been great. scores a lot of points on the pp. 5 vs 5 numbers don't lie he isn't that great. still would hate to lose him tho.....

Don't know why but I have a gut feeling that Kadri is getting traded this Summer. For what...who knows but I have a feeling he will be part of a package for something.

Don't like reading that my TML brethren think Plecanek should be back or that perhaps Kadri should be traded. Feels somewhat sophmoric that these notions be floated the day after Leaf's 1st playoff win - without Kadri in which Plecanek played well.

Plecanek has been flat out brutal (until last night.)

Why would you trade a high skill 27-year old 30-goal scorer under team control for 4 more years at $4.5M who has flourished under this coach. (until the other night). Important part of their team. Given that Bozak set to walk, how could you trade Kadri?

Shortsighted talk like this gives Leaf fans a bad name.

As for JVR, would love to see him back, but sure looks like Kapanen ready for a big minutes jump and a jump upward off the 4th line.

Why would anybody take the same total money over 8 years instead of 7? Makes absolutely zero sense!!! There is no benefit to him whatsoever.

He will be 35 at the end of the 7-year deal and assuming he's still relatively healthy he might be able to squeeze out another 2-3 year contract at decent money.
