The lunacy of NHL officiating: all 4 zebras huddle together, during the Vegas-LA game, to determine if the puck was cleared directly over the glass by Vegas defender (during OT); No such huddle/ conversation happens for two polar opposite boarding incidents (Pens-Flyers).

#NHL Junk science

The issue once again is consistency. The Pens had their chances, so we can't blame the refs for not giving the Pens their share, but at the same time there simply should have been more calls on both sides. What was good for one team wasn't good for the other and that's a problem.

This is true, and Aussie's comment is correct on this as well, but I still believe it in this case because the pens are the better team.

This year's Pens struggle defensively and especially on the PK which is noticeably worse since Cole left. Also, Murray is just not the same this year. His hallmark has always been he does not have two bad games in a row, he bounces back well. We shall see today. I know his dad died this year and fairly recently so it's had to throw him under the bus.

The defense gives up some unreal goals sometimes with the opposition open as happy hour with free beer. They stand near the goal like, "beer me bro". No offense to Gunner and his blog but the Pens problems are more complex than simple statistics. It seems the 'prison defense' they have used defensively in the past is at times this year more like 'blank check defense' where you get what you want, no problem. Let me fill your shopping cart with pucks.

We seem to be fishing a lot of these out of our net this year.

My apologies for jinxing Murray and the team, saying that his SO in game 1 was huge for his and the team's mentality going foward.

There will be no more slip ups from me this postseason.

The playoffs are about making the most of opportunities. Whether that's burying chances or making a big bad-angle breakaway save, it's not about how many chances you get, it's what you do with those chances. The Penguins were opportunistic and timely the last two playoff seasons and it paid off. They were opportunistic game one and were far from opportunistic in game two. That needs to change today.

Last season they were. The season before they were not opportunistic or timely, they slaughtered the other teams in shot attempts and smothered them with shots, can't have goals without shots.

They certainly were timely. They responded time and time again with big goals when they were most needed. When they would give one up, they'd turn around a get one. From Rust in game 7 against Tampa Bay, to Sheary's OT goal in the Finals, to the Cup winning goal from Letang. Timely finishing and timely saves.

They weren't just winning the possession battle, they made the most of their chances.

The Pens did not snooze last game. I'm expecting an extremely motivated Pens team today and my only worry is allowing their fire to get them into trouble as far as taking dumb retaliation penalties.

I think Sully will keep them under control. We dominated possession but were just a little off in the execution. Pens passed up soooo many chances to shoot last game while looking for the perfect play. I like how Sully stressed yesterday that they need to get the puck on net more. I kind of felt they let Elliot off the hook early by over-passing. Getting goals on rebounds count as much as highlight reel goals.

Yes. One thing I notice Sid and Geno do last game was attempting fancy cross-ice passes instead of just a good quick tick-tac-toe pass. They need small quick passes to throw Philly off their game.

If a goaltender has some doubts, throw it on net from every angle. Elliot probably gained a good amount of confidence in the last game. Deservedly so. He played great, but I thought early on he was still a little shaky. Missed opportunity.
